i will be only intermittently online for most of this week probably so here's an twip tuesday, i feel crazy
White walls, easels and canvas, sketches tacked up over more sketches. The window overlooks the garden. Louis can see why it became the studio, the light that filters in through the glass is strong and pure. “Spying?” Armand is in the doorway that opens onto the hall. “Just a little. I was just thinking the light is perfect in here.” “Yes, it always was.” Armand comes in and goes to the window. “My bed used to be in that corner over there. If I got up early enough, I could put the blinds up and watch the sun rise.” A little brusque, as if embarrassed, he adds, “Bookshelf over there. Desk a few feet from there. Really unfortunate picture of Brad Pitt on a corkboard over there.” Mutual laughter. Louis hugs him from behind. “Any photos of you?” “Dad probably has a lot. He was experimenting with photography, did his own developing.” “I’ll make him get the family albums out tonight.” “Actually—stay here, hang on—” Armand goes through the adjoining bathroom into Marius’s bedroom. He comes back a few seconds later with a framed photo. It’s of three teenagers: a curly-haired boy who’s obviously Armand in the middle, flanked by a slightly older Black boy and a blonde girl who’s kissing Armand’s cheek. Armand taps each face. “Riccardo. Me. Bianca. “Aw, that’s you?” “Yeah.” Louis wolf-whistles. “Okay, Pasolini Boy.” Armand gives him a playfully sultry grin. “Yeah? Would you do me at sixteen?” “Sick fuck. Yeah I’d do you when you were sixteen.” “Sick fuck yourself.” They shove each other, and Louis catches him, bites his ear and the corner of his jaw. Tongue in his mouth. The photo is set forgotten on the nearest easel. Louis’s just sunk his fingers into the flesh below Armand’s ass when someone calls Amadeo and Armand jumps a foot in the air and whirls around. Marius rounds the corner. “There you are. I thought you might be in here,” he says. Armand tries to step away from Louis, but Louis hangs onto him. “Admiring the view,” he says. Armand extracts himself from Louis’s grip. He’s flushed. He goes to Marius. “You repainted it.” His voice is high and brittle. “Broke my heart to do it, but white carried the light better.” “They used to be peacock blue,” Armand explains. “Always so much color up here. Dinner’s ready, I came up to tell you. I want you tell me what you think of this chianti, Amadeo,” he adds, raising his voice as he heads back downstairs. “They stopped carrying the old brand, and I’m not sure this new one is equal to it.”

The thing about Mamdani is that he’s a talented politician but not otherworldly or one in a billion, he’s just a competent guy with popular ideas who ran against an entitled piece of shit and to me it’s a lot more optimistic to imagine 1000 campaigns like his than to view him as a unique phenomenon
