#BBNZ the high seas treaty is now international law. Over 83 countries and the EU have ratified the treaty. NZ is behind the times & has yet to ratify. NZ needs to introduce & pass ratification legislation if its going to influence high seas management from the start. #BBNJCOP

This summer the Coromandel is under siege from gold mining companies. This is a threat to the environment plus tourism and recreation opportunities as the mining companies only want to make short term profits for their overseas shareholders. #nofasttrack

One of the environmental success stories of 2025 was the #BBNJ Treaty reaching the required number of ratifications to come into force on 17 January 2026. The country ratifications continues to grow yet NZ has yet to ratify - we look forward to the legislation to do this in early 2026. #60ToGlobal

The Govt cost mining clean-up continues to rise with a $256 million bill estimated for just one coal mining. These costs are just one of the growing costs of mining coal - its doesn't include climate change impacts & loss of endangered species & habitat. www.thepost.co.nz/nz-news/3609...

Minister announces decisions on some stewardship land rejecting most proposals for addition to National Parks & proposes to dispose of 3286ha of stewardship land, including World Heritage land. This is a huge area in comparison the review panels proposed only disposing of 66.1ha.

Government is passing an RMA Bill (Resource Management (Duration of Consents) Amendment Bill) through all stages under urgency which was not available when debate started, for which there is no regulatory impact statement and no analysis of its implications.

Only 5 days to makes submissions on Govt Fast Track legislation which will make the law even worse for the environment and community engagement. Make a submission @greenpeace.org.nz is one guide on the crucial issues in the Bill. #FastTrack
