The researchers found that one of the disposable vapes they studied released more lead during a day’s worth of use than almost 20 packs of tobacco cigarettes. cen.acs.org/business/con... #chemsky 🧪
Disposable vapes release a lot of heavy metals, especially as they get used up
And the longer a device is used, the more heavy metals and metalloids in its vapor

While idly perusing the PurpleAir #PM2.5 map today -- it's an amazingly clean day in the Northeast US, but there was this one red sensor in Ohio, north of Cincy. And then I saw that it was ironically located just outside the town of "Mount Healthy". #AirQuality #SpikeyTimeSeries 🧪⚗️

This week we were notified that our Thriving Communities grant to build community capacity and study #AirQuality in the #Anthracite #Coal Region of PA was selected for an award!

It was not ideal to see that we were awarded frozen (EPA) funds that we aren’t sure that we will ever really get.

NIH-supported Environmental Health Perspectives is the open-access flagship journal in environmental health. They have paused all new manuscript submissions "due to changes in operational resources". Is this the transparency and open discourse we were promised?

Was just reading a #NYTimes Morning email blast with an article reflecting on Spring 2020…. 5 years later. This question hit me harder than I thought it would.

Hugs requiring a calculation. Oof. Think about what it’ll be like to explain this idea to kids in 10-15 years.

Apropos of *absoloutely nothing* science 🧪 friends, this is your friendly reminder to read the grant solicitation VERY thoroughly when you *start* writing so you don’t have to reformat/rewrite/cut down your whole grant in like 6 hours right at the deadline.

Understanding the Link Between Indoor Ventilation and Radon Levels: Insights from Recent Measurements
January marks Radon Awareness Month, a time when public health officials and environmental agencies emphasize the importance of monitoring and mitigating radon gas, a known carcinogen that can accumulate in buildings. Recent measurements taken in my residential setting have revealed a clear pattern linking radon (Rn) levels to indoor ventilation practices, providing valuable insights into how we can manage this health risk effectively.
