I gave an exam Tuesday. Afterward, one student wrote to me "Professor Carlton, I loved your exam questions. You are so funny"
I'm about to find out what that means exactly. 😬 Here's to being in SoCal where people are less sarcastic compared to NJ 🤞

Today, the U.S. faces one billion+ dollar climate/weather disaster on average every 2w. That's a massive increase from one every 4m in the 1980s.

This is 'global weirding' and people are taking notice!

The government told NOAA to stop tracking these events: but @climatecentral.org is on the job.

Thinking about my mom who taught 7 & 8th grade math. A sign in her classroom said "there are no silly questions".

The guest for knowledge includes failure.

University of California faculty & alumni won five (5!) Nobel Prizes in ONE week, highlighting the contributions of America’s #1 public research university & the central role of independent federal funding in advancing scientific inquiry.
UC wins 5 Nobel Prizes in 3 days — and sets a new world record
These discoveries span decades and disciplines, but they all have one important thing in common: They’ve all relied on competitive funding from the federal government.

In her 1964 @nature.com paper, Dr. Jane Goodall wrote about a chimpanzee using tools, challenging conventional wisdom & changing how people think. I loved her speech at Rutgers' commencement: “You are not born with a fixed amount of resilience. Like a muscle, you can build it up"

@ucirvine.bsky.social ... for real? I can't access canvas for teaching unless you have the ability to *erase all the data* on a computer I bought w/ a research grant? My personal data was already stolen at least once on resources managed by you. What could possibly go wrong? I'm literally sick🤮

There was yet another school shooting today in the United States. Compare and contrast media coverage of that with the shooting in Utah of a MAGA influencer. What do you observe?
