How Small Changes to your Daily Routine Could Make a Big Difference to your Exposure to Air Pollution
We often think of air pollution as something that happens "out there", smoggy skylines and exhaust fumes. However, for many of us, the most polluted air we breathe is actually inside our own homes. The good news? You don’t need a massive renovation to fix it. A few strategic changes to your daily habits can drastically reduce your exposure to harmful particulates and chemicals.

“In stable conditions, the AirSpot proved remarkably accurate. Correlation tests against common CO2 monitor, the aranet4, showed excellent correlation coefficient of r=0.98. For daily indoor use, in offices, classrooms, restaurants, and homes, its reliability is unquestionable.”

A Synthesis of Expert Views on Submicron and Ultrafine Particles
For decades, the global standard for measuring indoor air quality (IAQ) has focused on PM2.5, particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter of 2.5 micrometers or less. However, recent findings from the Particulate Matter Working Group suggest that this mass-based metric may be overlooking the most significant health risks. By synthesizing expert survey data and recent literature, we can now map the critical landscape of submicron and ultrafine particles.

AirSpot Review: The Wearable CO2 Monitor That Delivers Real-Time Clarity
The world of air quality monitoring has long been dominated by bulky, desk-bound units. The AirSpot, a revolutionary small CO2 monitor, shatters that paradigm. Given to me by the CEO of The Safer A…

Beyond the Gamification: Why 2026 Demands Empathetic AI for Air Quality?
I recognize that these ideas may be ahead of the curve, but history shows that transformative products require us to design for the future we want, not just the world we have today.

Happy 2026: Why 2026 is the Year of Real IAQ Collaboration
As the calendar turns and we welcome 2026, the team at GO AQS wants to wish our global community a very Happy New Year! Every new year offers a chance to reset, but 2026 feels fundamentally different. While previous years were defined by rapid technological shifts and individual innovations, we believe 2026 will be defined by something much more powerful: The Human Connection.

Why Lung Cancer Is on the Rise in Non-Smokers
Still a mystery, but here is what we have found so far. While the overall rate of lung cancer has been declining, a notable trend has emerged: lung cancer in people who have never smoked is increasing. This poses a challenge to the traditional understanding of the disease, which is heavily associated with tobacco use. Research suggests that for some, lung cancer in non-smokers is a distinct disease from that in smokers, driven by different factors and presenting in a different form.

WHO Releases HRAPIE-2: Updated Guidance to Reshape Global Air Quality Standards
The World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe has published a critical new document, Health risks of air pollution in Europe: HRAPIE-2 project, providing updated, evidence-based guidance that is set to become a vital resource for policymakers and organizations worldwide, including the Global Open Air Quality Standards (GO AQS). This report updates the original 2013 HRAPIE guidance and is a key tool for quantifying the immense health burden of air pollution.

Having had the opportunity to get the AirGradient Open Air (Model O-1PST) at the ASIC 2025 conference in Thailand, complete with its unique engraving, I've spent some time with this device, and it's clear that AirGradient is pushing the boundaries of accessible and reliable outdoor air quality monitoring. This device presents a compelling alternative to existing solutions, particularly for those seeking transparency and robust performance.

Spectroscopy: The Next Step for Low-Cost Particulate Matter Sensors
The landscape of ambient air quality monitoring is evolving, driven by the increasing availability of low-cost sensors. While current low-cost particulate matter (PM) sensors, which rely on light scattering, provide valuable data on particle size and number, they lack the ability to determine a particle's composition. This limitation is a significant hurdle in understanding the true nature and origin of air pollution.

Elemental Carbon (EC) vs. Black Carbon (BC): A Distinction in Measurement and Terminology
The terms Elemental Carbon (EC) and Black Carbon (BC) are both used to describe the product of incomplete combustion of fossil fuels, biomass, and biofuels, which is a significant component of aerosols (airborne particulate matter). While often used interchangeably in general discussion, they represent distinct concepts primarily tied to their respective measurement methodologies. Understanding this difference is crucial in air quality monitoring, climate science, and health studies.
