Trying to maintain a thread of realistic optimism. The anti-intellectualism, anti-science, ignorance, antipathy, sexism, racism, & corporate/authoritarian-bootlicking in my country terrifies me. And it's getting so much worse.

Facts. Art. Music. Empathy.

It really is that simple
For those of us not in the cult, this is what we hear when anyone from the Trump administration speaks.

For the people in the back, this is satire and so well done…

My whole life, advocating war has been fed to me as “the adult position,” akin to drinking your coffee black or reading the business section of the newspaper. Let’s be very clear — war is the childish nonsense of impulsive destructive idiots playing baby-brained video games with real human lives.

It sucks to realize that your specialized knowledge is WORTHLESS to the masses, where it seems every individual must learn the lesson for themselves that a system, tool, product is fundamentally untrustworthy, despite appearances… especially when it’s marketed BY BEING AN INFECTION of EVERYTHING!

Happy Birthday, you wacky fuckin’ calendar thing, you!

And Happy New Year to all those who feel like taking such a greeting. I’m not exactly optimistic, but I have to aim higher than pessimistic misery because I care about people and want us all to live better lives. Go forth and try to be merry!

My hands, feet, underarms sweat when I’m COLD. WTF?

Then there’s the [recent?] clumsiness.

It’s stuff like this that makes me feel like I’m a perfectly reasonable & sensible homunculus trapped inside the meat robot he has to pilot that’s very badly designed and the controls don’t respond well.

Every few years I stumble into the same situation: I've an issue w/software or a music product, I fuss w/it a while, then head out to search engines to ask questions and see how others have dealt with it (if anyone)…

…and all I find in search results is MYSELF, posted on forums from the last time.

There IS a keyboard dictionary RESET in iOS, but it's fucking hidden where YOU WILL NEVER LOOK FOR IT (Transfer or Reset iPhone), instead of in FUCKING KEYBOARD SETTINGS where it USED TO FUCKING BE and MAKES SENSE TO BE!

If you experience misery with text/keyboard behavior (& the shitty UI redesign) in iOS, tell Apple! Flood ’em w/complaints! Email Tim Cook! I’m likely blocked: Over a decade I’ve escalated from detailed, respectful, formal bug reporting to obscenity, because they fix nothing while breaking more shit

Has anyone on here successfully learned to play an instrument as an adult while ALSO having learning disabilities like dyslexia, dyspraxia, etc? My only *diagnosed* LD is autism, at age 30; well beyond any hope of accommodation in education. Everything I look up online is about children.

Apple products have almost descended to the level of Microsoft products in terms of utter madness-inducing brokenness and untrustworthiness of function. I despise this WHOLE fucking industry because they have thoroughly RUINED computing. Nothing works. Everything is broken. THIS WAS A CHOICE.
December 26, 2025 at 11:58 AM
Doesn’t matter how good the hardware is or how well it performs when you 1st buy it, Apple WILL RUIN the device with an OS update. My Apple Watch was so much better than my shitty Amazon AmazFit, but now with the current OS, latency is horrid, notifications fail, speech doesn’t work half the time…

NOTHING FUCKING WORKS # 64,467,544,666: My GF has a Mac, but not an iPhone. We use iMessage a lot but her Mac was not notifying her of messages sent while the Mac was asleep. She updated to the latest OS her now “obsolete“ 5-year-old Mac can ever get and now she doesn’t get those messages at all.

Hey Apple, what the fuck are we pulling down / swiping up anymore w/the goddamned lock screen? There’s a “glass” sheet and then a background image just appears or disappears. Is the background not on the glass? There’s no logic to your UI. You‘ve no idea what the fuck you’re doing at all anymore.

What if we supported curiosity instead of information overload?

I wish I were paid per bug I report to Apple. When a quick-reply iMessage sheet is pulled down, the background looks fine. Once you reply, the background appears to flip sideways. Apple literally don’t test a fucking thing. As a company, corporate leadership should be fucking ashamed of themselves.

It's truly remarkable how there will be news organizations and journalists who correctly identify that RFK is a menace and that HHS can't e trusted when he pushes stuff about vaccines or Tylenol causing autism... but cover the anti-trans stuff like "Well, HHS says so, and we should trust HHS!"
Trans youth healthcare is based in decades of research and supported by every major medical organization in the US. Under RFK Jr, a handpicked panel produced a dodgy report claiming otherwise.

It's a clear example of Kennedy's war on science. So why aren't news organizations treating it that way?
