Hydrological Scientist at Charles Darwin University, 🇦🇺. Researching groundwater & surface water. Working with ecologists & remote sensing folks. Also love home brewing 🍺, heavy metal 🤘 & recently, 3D printing. Opinions are my own.
It's meetings and/or needlessly long training courses, am I right #academicsky?

Given the topic of my PhD (groundwater and temperature) I can't believe I've never thought about this. Abandoned onshore gas wells and geothermal energy... So smart (assuming sufficient temps, etc.). 🧪 theconversation.com/geothermal-e...
Geothermal energy has huge potential to generate clean power – including from used oil and gas wells
The Earth’s own heat can be brought up from underground and used as a source of energy that emits almost no greenhouse gases and can operate 24/7 almost anywhere on the planet.

While declining a review from an #MDPI journal, I (politely) mentioned that I do not with to publish in or review for MDPI. I asked to be removed from their reviewing register.

I feel like an asshole, but I don't want to keep declining reviews.

I'm not a rap fan in the least, but surely most people can agree that Snoop Dogg doing the pregame entertainment at the #AFL grand final was fun. Like, super fun.

#academicsky, what do you think about in person lectures? What about this article to save them?

With external students, it's then not fair to make the in-person lectures something that the online folks can't experience...

#EarthScience is more important now than ever. We need more people to investigate Earth's various complex, interacting systems ( #climate, #hydrology, #geology, #biology). We DON'T need science cuts from universities www.timeshighereducation.com/opinion/eart...
