Hydrological Scientist at Charles Darwin University, 🇦🇺. Researching groundwater & surface water. Working with ecologists & remote sensing folks. Also love home brewing 🍺, heavy metal 🤘 & recently, 3D printing. Opinions are my own.
This Galah at the Douglas Daly Holiday Park is really enjoying chewing my boots to pieces, so I'm making it work for it...

Just a reminder that Elizabeth Zharoff (The Charismatic Voice) on YouTube is equal parts awesome, wholesome, fun and informative... That is if you like singing and heavy music. She's just so awesome. 🤘

#Graduation is such a joyous time. Watching students celebrate their hard work is so heartwarming. In this case, seeing the now DR Steve Tickell get his well deserved honorary PhD! 🎉🎉🎉 #CDU

Analyses in #hydrology can produce some of the most amazing, and really, really pretty results. Check out this flow accumulation output from the incredible pysheds #Python library. 🧪 #academicsky

I've always loved the #Mastodon lyric "Oceans morph to dust, chasing the timeline" from the song This Mortal Soil. The whole Blood Mountain album is just so great. I got this #tattoo to celebrate its radness.

:( my dog is horrifically scared of fireworks. We have "cracker night" each 1st of July. It's not the least bit fun with an anxious dog.

It turns out that Bali is very fun. Who knew?

Check out this amazing kids' activity book. Mind numbing stupidity or is someone having a laugh? It gets worse the longer you look.

I'm done with grading for the semester! 🤘🤘🤘And with more than 6 hours to spare I might add.

Feels like -1 °C (in Darwin temperature units where 16 °C = freezing).

I enjoy working in #hydrology very much. Today, I enjoyed all the colourful conversations about why I just bought 6 coolers. Yes, *I am* a thirsty boy 😃, but that's irrelevant here. These are to ship water samples 🧪

Any #arachnophobes out there? I walked through a golden orb spider web while collecting a sample today. I couldn't work out where it went. On my backpack so it seems...

Around this time about 6 years ago. Sadly not the most traumatic experience that my nose has endured.

Woohoo, my #3Dprint files for the Australian Basins (Rivers 1997) are now available online at makerworld.com/en/models/12.... Big thanks to Geoscience Australia for providing the input files, and to QGIS and the DEMto3D developers for being awesome. #hydrology #education 🧪

I never planned to go back to Twitter. I officially deactivated my account today.

All done. #3Dprint of the Australian major #river basins. Very happy with how this turned out. Now to glue it together and to upload the files to share with everyone. #hydrology

Coming soon, the Geofabric version:
April 5, 2025 at 1:45 AM
Work in progress... I've made 2 sets of #3Dprint files of the major Australian #river basins (this is the River Basins 1997 version). I'll upload them to the Bambulab Maker World site once I've printed them all. #hydrology 🧪
April 4, 2025 at 11:48 PM
I have to work on my uploading skills, but I made 3d printer files for the #Mississippi #catchment (watershed). If anyone can help me work out how to make multiple catchments with the same vertical scale (e.g., all major basins in 🇦🇺) I'm keen to learn! #hydrology 🧪

Fieldwork time. I successfully convinced the airport security that I'm not building bombs. Now to finish my logger box so that I can deploy my water quality sensors tomorrow. #hydrology 🧪

I enjoy 3D printing far more than I should. The QGIS DEMto3D plugin makes it so that even I can do this. It's the Tiwi Islands in the NT by the way... Just blue and green. The light makes it look fancier than it is.
March 15, 2025 at 12:29 PM
Finally found an easy way to make coloured prints of catchments on the #3Dprinter. Present for a friend is underway. Can't wait to see the final product. #hydrology
March 15, 2025 at 1:09 AM
I'm really enjoying 3D printing at the moment. This #3dPrint from makerworld.com/en/models/81... is by far the most complex thing I've printed so far. 22 hours in, 17 to go.

I'm building up a collection of Earth-Science-related 3D things. Very fun.

I've set up a water balance example for my #hydrology class using the AWRA-L model awo.bom.gov.au/products/his....
P - ET - deep drainage - runoff = dS/dt (or that I don't have enough parameters).

Next year, I download the files again and re-run my #Python scripts 😄🧪
