There's a whole lot of knowledge out there - about life, the universe and everything. Every day, hardworking researchers add a little more. So proportionally speaking, I'm getting just a bit dumber every day. And I'm sharing that journey with you. Enjoy!

The indicators used by some flagship university rankings don’t capture the full range of qualities and functions of higher-education institutions

To reform universities, first tackle global rankings
Universities are in thrall to a rankings system that prioritizes narrow aspects of academic life. Three changes would give institutions the freedom to explore fresh ways of working.

James Watson has passed away. Do we celebrate the enormous scientific breakthrough that was discovering the structure of DNA (however that was achieved)? Or do we condemn his (many, many) character flaws? In other words: Should "great men" be allowed to be asshats and bigots and still be lionized?
Watson – who won the Nobel Prize for his role in divining the structure of DNA; was instrumental in initiating and propelling the Human Genome Project; and who became notorious for his history of racist and sexist comments – has died at 97

When I was young and stupid, I had a dream - and it was big, and it was bold, and it was very, very dumb: I would read every book in the world. Every. Last. One.

I'm getting dumber every day - and that's okay
No matter what my mom may tell you, I’m really not that smart. And the sad thing is, I’m getting dumber every day.

The loveliest thing happened as I was queuing in a local shop:
Woman: Are you a piano teacher?
Me: No!
Her: I just know yr face
Me: Could it be from the bookshop where I used to work?
Her: OMG yes! You’re Danny and you got my reluctant reader son into books. He’s a bookworm now!

The ocean is big and blue(ish), and full of life. And I knew nothing about it...until I did "The Complete Marine Biology 101 Course". Now I know *next to* nothing. Progress!

Seriously, though, solid and fun intro to a fascinating field...and in #MarineMonth as well :)

Look, more than 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered by water. It’s where life began – and where most of it still lives. Tackling all that requires a lot of brainpower. That's why the NRF-SAIAB aquatic biobank believes that when it comes to science, sharing is caring.
