I was recently approached by the team behind a campaign to make a short film on non-attendance at school, Jo Clayton and Natalie Lauren Woodward.

Jo's short script about the #attendance crisis - Unauthorised Absence - is a finalist for the IMDB Script to Screen Award 2025.

If you read one thing this weekend, read this. The way we treat young people who are a little 'different' is endlessly shocking. With thanks and respect to Kate Szymankiewicz.

''Kasibba was the holder of her own human rights'
#AutismArtOfThePossible
Lucy explains that people had forgotten that Kasibba was the holder of her own Human Rights. The original teams on the wards had forgotten this, and jut about all of her rights had been removed from her.
The teams learned that her 'bad behaviour' was communication of her distress, and very valid/

www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... is one link to Kasibba's story. It's daunting to read, and what a total mess, eh? So many people describing Kasibba in dreadful and frankly racist ways, before people rethought autism, learned new perspectives, and made a huge difference/

Ruth Moyse talks about her past research on autistic children and schools. Every child who wasn't able to attend school said they wished they could attend. But they can't do it. It's impossible for them.

It's not school 'refusal'. They can't access the school.
