I'll give you the energy part, but it is still stealing the artwork, but just for internal purposes, which is exactly what "we just use AI for pre-concept art" means, right? They're generating some ideas, but not actually using those plaigarised pixels in the commerical product.

I did games concept art at uni.
We were taught that the first step before esoteric concept art is create a mood board. This was done literally by using google image search and puting together a bunch of stolen ideas from your favourite games and movies etc.
Using AI for this step seems... The same?
