As I figure out what I want this platform to be for me, I’ve decided to try to promote scholarship on equity and disability written by scholars of color. First up, this article on reimagining IEP interpretations by @drarubybatz.bsky.social et al. journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1...

Saw a diversity statement for a job today where a white woman listed her Asian husband and mixed race child. SMH.

Here in the Bay Area, I’ve encountered far too many South Asian families who believe that the “best” related services will somehow make their kid less disabled. Instead of sending your kids to the best segregated, special ed program, channel your resources into inclusion advocacy. The end.

Anything or anyone using terms like grit or resilience to describe our students & teachers. Stop placing responsibility on people to claw themselves out of poorly managed, harmful systems and then congratulating them with empty words because they survived.

Low standardized test scores here, a D in my first bio class freshman year and a 2.66 undergrad GPA right here.
we need professors that are not naturals at academic writing
we need professors who didn’t have perfect grades
we need professors that went to community college
we need professors that went to non-selective institutions
we need professors that have always struggled to belong

It felt kinda ick posting some recent work that came out on X. I had otherwise divested a long time ago but missed opportunities to connect with others around scholarship and other thoughts. Grateful for this new space and hoping it’ll remain 🤞🏾

1) discipline disparities for young children of color with disabilities
2) maternal ableism (my last op-ed touched on these thoughts msmagazine.com/2024/10/16/a... )
