While it felt dejecting to have so many revisions, I am now so grateful for our early persistence and insistence that the work was important.

Today, that article has nearly 100 citations, is still widely discussed in its subfield and served as a turning point in both our careers. (She now has a Master’s in Counseling and I got tenure at my new institution some years ago).

Through the program that supported our partnership, lots of coffee shop work, and 4 rounds of R&R our article was published in 2017

I found a student from the first post PhD class I taught. She was a post-bacc with 0 research training.

Anything or anyone using terms like grit or resilience to describe our students & teachers. Stop placing responsibility on people to claw themselves out of poorly managed, harmful systems and then congratulating them with empty words because they survived.
