A few important reminders about measles:
1. It’s one of the most contagious diseases on the planet and is spread by airborne transmission.
2. Measles lasts in the air for hours after the infected person has left the room.
3. Two doses of the MMR vaccine offer over 95% protection.

I can’t believe it's been five years since #COVID19 was declared a pandemic.

These past few years have felt like we’re moving from crisis to crisis. It’s been exhausting, but our health system has learned a few lessons: www.cma.ca/latest-stori...

With this trade war, we need to be prepared for some sacrifice. Cancel or not book vacations in the US, give up brands made in US, cancel US services. Lean in to discomfort, mourn the loss, and support 🇨🇦 and allies. If you don’t, we WILL judge you and WILL be disappointed. #tradewar #teamcanada

I’m participating in the economic blackout today, but the Canadian edition. Will only buy non-US made things from non-US stores if anything.

I am slowly replacing as many of my US made products as possible. As I’m also trying to support smaller businesses in the process one thing I’m learning is that I need to be patient waiting for the deliveries to arrive. But so far, it’s been totally worth it! #tradewar #supportcanadian #teamcanada

Welp - Covid hits my family with my 8 yo daughter testing positive today. Had odd symptoms, starting with ear infection, sore throat with white exudate (but also cough), fatigue and bilateral conjunctivitis. Had her family doctor swab her because of the large differential. #covid19

In Quebec, you 'get' a family doctor by paying $150 for a 15 minute appointment. The public system's challenges: 1. Training, recruiting and retaining more FPs (and NPs). 2. Paying what they're worth. 3. Mandatory enrolment in family practice.

Opinion - Closing supervised drug-use sites won’t just affect those with addiction – it will hurt anyone who uses a hospital: Doug Ford’s decision to close nearly half of Ontario’s supervised consumption sites will lead to increased demands on our already overtaxed emergency rooms

When people tell me 'you have to listen to the voters! the voters are never wrong!' these are the kind of stats I think of.
“In 2022, YouGov asked “What percentage of Americans do you think are ___?”

The results were hilarious.

Trans: 21%
Muslim: 27%
Jewish: 30%
Black: 41%
Live in NYC: 30%
Gay or lesbian: 30%

The errors are off by orders of magnitude. The trans estimation by 2,000%.”

Just had two friends test positive for Covid here in St John’s NL. First confirmed cases this fall that I’ve heard of. What are Covid infections looking like where you are? I’ve mostly been slammed with patients with M. pneumo. #covid

Will definitely be using this info to encourage my patients to get their Covid shots!
Wondering why so many people have mycoplasma (aka walking pneumonia) lately? Here’s a clue.

Just published: after propensity matching, those w/ prior #COVID19 infection were about 3x more likely to get mycoplasma than those without #COVID: www.thelancet.com/journals/lan...

One thing that gives me hope for the US is the situation in Poland. After years of far right leadership, things finally swung back to the center with the KO winning back control. Soon there will be a presidential election with @rafal-trzaskowski.bsky.social running as the candidate.

I recently deleted my Threads app because I found I was getting sucked into too many “raging baiting” posts that are clearly meant to drive engagement but without any genuine intentions to drive discourse. I really hope it doesn’t hope that doesn’t happen here!

“Walking pneumonia”
It’s back

We don’t have a vax for it😩

Look for a new fever after 5-10days of “regular” cold symptoms + worsening cough

Get your flu/covid vax to keep your lungs in tip top shape to help fight off the other bugs we don’t yet have vaccines for!
