Recovering from Long Covid - I think!
I listened to Steve Reed on Radio 4 this morning defending the indefensible and then Starmer himself waxing his untenables all over the shop.

The only thing he should have been saying this morning is “I quit”.

I can’t see Starmer being PM now. He can’t carry on.

Much though I have enjoyed all of my many trips to the USA over forty or so years I have realised that I cannot go there any more until there is what we might call ‘regime change’ Like Iran they are killing their own citizens. Tragic

Lincoln City were superb tonight. A fantastic performance.

I’ve spent the last few days in Croydon. I have a lot of affection for the town I lived in for 13 years. I’ve been taken aback by how much it’s changed. I’m quite sad about the neglect it’s received. I left as gentrification was being mooted. I’m not sure it’s worked out.

Boris Johnson’s purge of the One Nation Tories in 2019 continues to haunt the party.

The subsequent swing to a more hardline position and Reform-like policies looks inauthentic and unapologetic.

They lack the sort of talent to change this I feel.

I was just writing about how the bad guys in Doctor Who often have buffoonish master plans only to read in the actual news that Trump intends to raise punitive taxes on Americans until Europe gives up & gives him Greenland

God, I am so sick of the word "franchise". It's a corporate term that should never be applied to creative works. It reduces them to units of product with no lasting value.

McDonalds is a franchise. Starbucks is a franchise.

Lord of the Rings, James Bond, Doctor Who etc are fictional series.

A Reform staffer grabbed ITV News journalist Peter Smith when he asked questions its new Scottish leader didn’t appreciate.

He’s not what you’d call a great speaker. Jenrick is explaining how terrible Britain is whilst simultaneously sucking the life out of the room he’s in.
January 15, 2026 at 5:01 PM
Years ago I used to simply dismiss Jenrick as a walking, talking Tory haircut.

I was wrong. He went to the barber and made demands.
January 15, 2026 at 4:58 PM
This Jenrick defection could lead to all sorts of different scenarios. I think today Labour will be extremely happy as they watch the Tories and Reform tearing shreds off each other. The days to come might be very different.

I’m 50 today. I decided not to work but the news about Jenrick is hard to avoid. What shenanigans. Great entertainment. He left his defection speech lying around? What?
