Wow — hundreds of faith leaders signed a letter against the cruel Tennessee Republican bill to block undocumented kids from schools… including a pastor from Senator Bo Watson’s own church. 😬

Measles spreads like wildfire with each case infecting 12-18 susceptible contacts on average.
Contact tracing means finding every person who was in that gym from the time they arrived until 2h AFTER they left to see if they’re at risk. This is why public health matters.

Some are attempting to claim that the Texas measles outbreak was caused by the vaccine. Texas DOH reports that all genotyped samples have shown the D8 genotype of the virus. The vaccine is genotype A. It definitively is not from the vaccine.

Well, this was sooner than expected but, unfortunately, not shocking.

Measles is a serious, potentially deadly disease.

This was a preventable death of a child.

Vaccinate your kids.
An unvaccinated child has died from #measles in the West Texas outbreak. So tragic.
Measles is a dangerous disease. Deaths are rar-ish, but they do happen. The measles vaccine is highly effective and safe.

One thing worth pointing out is that each of these hospitalized pts requires a negative pressure room while infectious, airborne precau by all staff, limitations on visitors, & potential post-exposure prophylaxis for high risk folks who are exposed. It’s an even bigger burden than the numbers imply.
The Texas state health department is reporting 124 measles cases today, up from 90 since Friday, February 21st. Of these cases, 96% are unvaccinated and 15% overall have been hospitalized to date.

For any parents out there who have even a FLEETING thought of exposing their child to measles to get “natural immunity”, read Max’s story
We don’t hear a lot about the consequences of measles in the long term. This is subacute sclerosing panencephalitis and it is uniformly fatal.
