Daddy to Ellie and Ryan - husband to Erin - binge poster when they’re all asleep. Swim dad. Charles Barkley called me hilarious.
Mike Schmidt PC - Dick Allen IS a Hall of Famer. Size 16 shoe.
Pinned
Just want to put this at the top of my feed with some new followers - Dick Allen should be in the Hall of Fame

The chart is every 10 year span from 1880 to present and the MLB OPS+ leaders for each span. The ones in green are in the Hall of Fame / grey = active or not yet eligible.
The whole list is even more daunting to look at. It's amazing that Dick Allen is not in yet. I hope the voters do the right thing and get him in!

60 years ago today - Red’s pitcher Jim Maloney faces 40 batters in a no-hitter. 10 walks and a HBP in 10 innings pitched.

Ernie Banks goes 0-5. The only man in MLB history to be retired 5 times while his team was no-hit.

This is a rip off of the original Thaddeus Young graphic, but I like this one better.

Lou Boudreau passed away OTD 2001

Jack Crimian played for Lou on the 1956 A's. Jack is pitching and Ted Williams due to leadoff the 8th

Lou's advice "Only throw 1 warmup pitch and then don't throw him that same pitch - he's watching"

Pulled these from packs 15+ years ago and thought “who the fook are these guys?”

Excited to see them matchup tonight. Keeping my son up to watch

Dick Allen slashed .292/.378/.534 for his career

If you lowered each by 30 points, the ONLY men to achieve .262/.348/.504 during Dick's era are all first-ballot Hall of Famers (Clemente was a special election).

It's crazy that he wasn't in already.

In 2016 Phillies public address announcer - the legendary Dan Baker - invited me to join him at the PSWA dinner. We sat with Gene Garber, Bill Giles, Larry Christenson, and Richard Allen jr.

Dan introduced me to "Froggy" - the man who has spearheaded the campaign for years.

OPS+ leaders for every 10 year span in history - published in Dick Allen, The Life and Times of a Baseball Immortal: An Illustrated Biography in 2017.

This is a great story & I love kids getting involved, but this was the centerpiece to the campaign for 10 years before their teacher came up with it

35 minutes into a 45-minute drive to my daughter’s swim meet, my wife—riding shotgun and awake the entire time—turns to me and asks:

“Which way did the directions take you?”

We’ve been on the same journey, but apparently not the same trip.

9 years ago today, our then 2 month old met his namesake - Ryan Howard.

Through some luck and good fortune, he’s gone on to have some moments with other Phillies MVPs - including last night’s AS MVP Kyle Schwarber

Pretty cool how the WNBA's biggest star participates in the signature event of their all-star weekend.

Carl Yastrzemski got a hit off 59 year old Satchel Paige in a MLB game.

Mike Yastrzemski pitched in a game started by 43yo Justin Verlander.

That’s Old Yaz vs. MLB’s oldest ever and Young Yaz with MLB’s oldest now.

Baseball is generational, weird, and perfect

And here we are on Larry Doby Day. Seventy-eight years ago today, Doby joined the Cleveland Indians in Chicago. As I wrote in "Our Team," it was a momentous day in the American League but a devastating one for Doby.

This may be my favorite trivia item ever - only "may be" since I didn't come up with it first :)

Awesome stuff
Dave Parker is one of 9 players ever to hit a HR off multiple Hall of Famers in the same game.

He accomplished this feat in 1985 against Dennis Eckersley and Lee Smith: www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CH...

See who the other 8 players are in this thread... 🧵👇

Buddy Lewis was a 22-year old 3B for the Senators that day. He'd finish the season with a career total of 753 hits (only Cobb has more before age 23 with 765)

3 years serving in WWII changed the trajectory of his career.

He lived long enough to respond to me about Lou Gehrig day in early 2000s.

Dan Baker has called 86 different MVPs to the plate in his career.

In every season since 1965(!!!) at least one MVP had Dan call them during their career

51 men have won the award at least once since 1990. Dan has called 50 of them (Juan Gonzalez the only missing)

Harry Kalas and Jesse Cole - two of the most popular men in baseball history - have similar origins to their love of the game

I saw a podcast with Cole and immediately thought of Harry / Mickey Vernon.

Both stories are awesome. Take a couple minutes and watch.

77 years ago today - Babe Ruth bids farewell to Yankee Stadium.

He uses Bob Feller’s bat to lean on in his weakened state. Feller inscribed the photo and wrote a letter to me about the day.

She hasn’t stopped hitting since this… has fielded and pitched well all year.

Just heard from the coach - She’s been chosen for the all-star team.

0-first 6 games to all star in 3 weeks. Huge glow up. So freaking proud.
Daughter has struggled hitting this year. Had no hits (many walks) through the first 6 games. She was really pressing.

Yesterday she went 4-4.

Little brother is behind to backstop. His excitement for her success is the best.
