Alright. Hello BlueSky! I’m a reporter focusing on environment/science & rural affairs. Working for the BBC in Birmingham. Looking to find some West Mids/Science/Farming people on here. And for downtime any discussion of active travel and cycle lanes. We need a cargo bike emoji.
I once turned up an entire month early for an interview :-(
Just turned up 24 hours early to an interview.

Team tracks are lethal. Why no one thought to build a cycle lane alongside the new tram extensions is one of the biggest of many mysteries around cycle infrastructure in Birmingham. Also get well soon!

Wrapped up warm and spotted a foxy visitor on the bike in the park last night.

Protected cycle tracks with floating bus stops keep people of all ages safe on bikes whilst also allowing buses to move freely without being delayed by slower cyclists.

One of my regular climate change correspondents emails to tell me I know nothing about science.

Me: I am literally a physicist.

Why the BBC is good… with graphs! My favourite type of evidence.
Quick thread on the BBC and the political and societal significance of recent developments:

One of the main reasons the UK has historically been so much less polarised than the US, is that Britain has a shared source of information, consumed and trusted by most people regardless of their politics.

What you’re witnessing is a populist assault on the BBC.

This is not an institutional scandal in any meaningful sense of the word. It is an attack on public service broadcasting.

Why BBC not show Buckingham Palace and read statement from Snooki off of Jersey Shore?
BBC News currently showing BBC Broadcasting House as BBC Chair says it is a sad day for the BBC as a BBC correspondent reads out resignation statements of BBC bosses

Greenery alongside cycle tracks cuts the risk of flooding by managing stormwater locally, the hedge also makes a nice barrier between bikes and motor vehicles, reducing spray from motor vehicles during rain, as well as improving the look of the street.

A section of cycle path on the Purple Pedalway had become badly overgrown. We asked Norfolk County Council to clear it but they only did half a job, so we spent two hours yesterday clearing back the vegetation properly.

It was hard work but satisfying. We shouldn’t need to do this.

Oooh cool thing in Stirchly. A sort of red light at a pedestrian crossing bypass allowing you to safely move past while cars have to stop.
Also new bike racks placed so that I would block the entire pavement if I used them. One step forward ect ect

Stunning. Not in a good way.
FL is moving forward w/ plan to end all childhood vaccine mandates. Starting with hepatitis B, chickenpox, and the bacteria causing meningitis and pneumonia. Then next year GOP FL legislature is expected to revisit 1977 law re: whooping cough, measles, polio, rubella, mumps, diphtheria, and tetanus.

Here’s another reason why billionaires are annoying- why are we even taking the Gates memo seriously? He’s not a trained climate scholar or even a seasoned advocate. He’s not a climate expert. He’s a rich dude with an opinion that gets legitimacy because of the money. Hard pass.
