But also the solution, as wise friends remind me.

Let’s all strive to be a solution not a problem.

If you're just catching up on Ontario's Bill 212, it passed yesterday.

Here's a rundown from me of what that'll mean for Highway 413, the Bradford Bypass and bike lanes in Toronto and beyond. (Spoiler alert, traffic will not get better)

With Bill 212 passed, Highway 413 is in and bike lanes are out | The Narwhal
Ontario’s Bill 212 empowers Doug Ford’s government to move ahead with Highway 413 without a full environmental assessment, and to rip out three Toronto bike lanes

It’s not “common sense” to ignore the people who’ve spent their whole adult lives learning about something complex. Imagine someone coming to your place of work, whatever it is, and telling you that you’re doing everything wrong because “common sense.” What would you think of them?
The reviews are in. The professional associations representing Ontario’s engineers tinyurl.com/5n6tuxv5 urban planners tinyurl.com/ytj3xuc2 and traffic engineers tinyurl.com/276hzzxd have all come out opposed to Ontario’s proposed law to override local governments and rip out local bike lanes.

Riding bikes is 10X more important than electric cars for reaching net-zero cities. And that’s just the climate emissions. Doesn’t include the massive public & personal cost, the air & noise pollution, the huge space difference, etc… @theconversation.bsky.social

Cycling is ten times more important than electric cars for reaching net-zero cities
Active travel can help tackle the climate crisis earlier than electric vehicles – even if you swap the car for a bike for just one trip a day.

Renewables need less energy:

Electricity generation ~2x less (by not throwing heat in coal and gas away).

Heating ~3x less (by using heatpumps that make 3 kWh heat from 1 kwh electricity)

Cars ~4× less (combustion engines waste ~80% of energy)
Have we been duped by the primary energy fallacy?

Critics of renewables often say that we cannot possibly replace the vast amount of fossil fuel we currently use with clean energy.

The good news is that we don’t have to. My article in Medium explains why.

Here’s something we’re not talking about enough in Ontario.

Every province and every city in Canada, North America and the world are competing with every other province and every other city.

This dangerous dumpster-fire of deranged decision-making is damaging Ontario.

That’s 100% certain.
This is SHOCKING. Among everything else that’s despicable about this, ITS A CLEAR ADMISSION THAT THEY KNOW THAT DOING THIS WILL OBVIOUSLY ENDANGER LIVES.

People rode bikes on these streets before the bike-lanes (albeit fewer) and they will again after. The inevitable blood will be on Ford’s hands.

I’d sure like to see a lot more men vilifying all the well-known ones accused of sexual assault, human trafficking and sex with minors.

It’s not normal to do those things and they’re reprehensible pigs that deserve to be ostracized and prosecuted.

Surely others feel this way?

Just a reminder that when Ford plays at being mayor, putting lives at risk, and making his government immune from prosecution is that the almost $50 mil price tag could be hiring rural doctors and keeping ERs open #onpoli
This is blatant life endangerment thru dangerous public policy I wouldn’t have thought possible until recently. In Ontario the Doug Ford Govt plans to BAN LAWSUITS against the Province WHEN people on bikes are hurt or killed after they rip out safe bike-lanes. “Stay off streets for your own safety.”

This is an excellent point about the language we use.

Cyclists, drivers and pedestrians are all people trying to get somewhere safely.
I actively avoid calling people on bikes “cyclists.” It fuels an “othering” or “us vs them,” and makes it easier to claim that safe infrastructure is for a small in-group. None of which is helpful.

It may take more characters in a post, but I just say people on bikes. Because that’s what they are.

No sexual assault or human trafficking. Just good old-fashioned corruption, it seems.

You weren’t expecting a Trump pick to be squeaky clean, were you? He just doesn’t attract that type.
Pam Bondi, Trump's new pick for AG, has a very long history from when she was Florida's attorney general of helping Trump legally after he gave her contributions.

And there's more you need to know.
