now that i’m gearing up to shop around the proposal here’s the elevator pitch for my next book: we were sold a vision of futurity that is false, reifying existing powers/interests, and pursuing that vision will destroy us. instead, i want to portray a better future that’s already in practice today

maybe folks hate the billions and billions (and billions) spent on building the most annoying industry in history, instead of funding a richer, broader and more equitable education system. billionaires seemingly can’t recognize value in anything unless it’s expensive and innovative and has a fat ROI
I have to admit that I've been surprised at the level of hate at AI LLMs.

There is finally a tool that allows those without access to an advanced education to self learn, anywhere , anytime. To get answers to questions, (even if sometimes wrong) , that they would otherwise never have access to
Nag. Sorry. I can't abide the pocket lining any more. You've been a better billionaire than most, but at the end if the day, it's all just a meal ticket for you. Gross.

for many years i’ve felt sore about being excluded from creative/professional cliques, a lifelong extension of my experience in high school. after 13 years i’m not really part of a peer group, and i am humble. but i also know my value, and i’m proud to have found my own, strange path as a writer

it’s been the case for decades that the us military can do incalculable damage, but can’t actually win a ‘war’ (usually an occupation). the trump regime seems hungry for a more conventional, continental scale conflict, but chances are we’re just as doomed in that endeavor. gives me hope.

i think a lot of today’s social ills can be traced to a certain set of privileged people becoming enamored with the idea of abstracting the world into design or engineering terms, and believing that doing so offers a unique insight into Actual Reality

i’m speaking into the void here but does anyone happen to have a suggestion for accessing data on old drives from a 2008 and 2014 macbook? data recovery services are crazy expensive and i think the drives are functional, just need a way to interface with them so i can browse some folders

lots of valid criticisms of the graphics, but the voices are the most unnerving part to me…are they ai generated? is this what zuckerberg thinks ‘humans relating’ sounds like?
This is Meta’s brand new ad for Horizon Worlds. Not sure how I’m supposed to feel about it.

if you encounter someone who actually thinks AI should be used to administrate government, education, air traffic control etc, ask them what they think of the fact that the best models can only multiply 3 x 3 correctly about 97% of the time

it’ll be a rough ride for everyone, but i think we’re about to witness one of the great hubristic downfalls in human history

This comment on r/fednews really stood out to me. Trump and Musk want people to think they're firing do-nothing "bureaucrats," but they're really getting rid of people dedicated to serving this country and keeping it operational. I hope these stories get told.

there is a very different but equivalently dramatic and strident version of the restructuring of the federal apparatus that i would wholeheartedly support. of course the targets and intention differ greatly, but hey, when the whole thing inevitably comes down, so will the aspects that are evil.

between the looming pandemics and the collapse of the federal government, i’m thinking the airline industry as such may not exist for too much longer
