Me: sweater weather is finally here! I’ll just pop the covers off all the fans quick and wash them before putting them away.

Lasko execs, villainously cackling with flashlights under their chins at a meeting: what if we used security screws to attach the covers on our consumer fans?

Switching back to a flip phone has really brought some unexpected whimsy to attempting minimal texting.

Sure, predictable text, sure. I’m obviously more likely to be typing “Voltron” than “to.”

I deeply enjoy pictures of molting birds but nothing prepared me for the juvenile laysan albatross rocking mullets and sideburns like hockeyhair contest contenders.

Apropos of nothing, the most incredible food launching incident I have ever learned about happened in Munich in 1967. When Helmut Winter built a catapult and launched potato dumplings at passing jets to get a flight path changed.

Just got stung in the head repeatedly by some wasps who have claimed one of my yarn stock tanks as part of their territory. Yelling at them about OSHA has accomplished nothing.

My parents sometimes go on about how I am de-technologing my life after being enthusiastic about computer/internet 20+ years ago.

I cleared my inboxes yesterday and have 57 unread emails now. Zero of them are a direct personal communication. Just so much *noise* in previously useful spaces.

It is too early to have my feed full of “har har those fools who think about learning practical skills humans have known forever are laughable”.

There’s joy and power and resilience in fundamental skills- versions we can talk about instead of giving mockery-clicks to weirdo purity fantasy sites.

Pretty sure the gold standard for whether a CL or marketplace ad up here is legit is whether or not the seller lists a price *and* a willingness to trade for your old snowmobile instead of money.

Telling my nieces I have superhero tunnel digging abilities because of childhood ant incident when they, living in fire ant country, are concerned about having an ant. They doubt it works like Spider-Man and claim I have a shovel. Pffft.

I dunno if the terrible birding pics account made it over here but this sandhill crane was feeling very smug about “tricking” me. I definitely followed it half a mile down the road away from its chick and partner because I was so
thoroughly fooled into thinking it could only meander and flap.

When I left the house this morning I didn’t think anything would be more fun than seeing a baby sandhill crane walking with its parents. Who knew the entertainment had just begun.

Heavy rain after unreasonably miserably hot May sun means Happy Rey Day everybody!

I never knew there was this much green in all the universe. The browns of winter are gone, vanished since this morning.

Remembered I still had a little ramp butter from last spring stashed in the freezer and if you were wondering, yes in fact, it is a very good idea to use that as the base for your Alfredo sauce.

Again I am forced to point out that anything arguing about rural politics like it is a monolith and the reason [USelectionresult] happened is giving a weird pass to the many, many more voters living in suburban areas who certainly are not voting like the urban cores.

Ridiculously excited my kickstarter books arrived and I am going to rock some cutting edge Iron Age fashion soon.

Am fascinated by the pants in here that have a construction I’ve never even imagined before.

Jordan and everyone else on this project are handing out trees for future food and community building. I learn a lot about systems following the project. Add some eyeballs if you’re on YT or join me in supporting with a few $ a month.

People out here doing work that adds up gives me hope.

“Why it is impossible for most people to grow all their own food and make all their own clothes” = doom, helplessness, despair.

“Ways people can learn to grow food and make/repair clothes” = enables hope and neighborly cooperation, provides some buffer and supplements purchases

MSP people! My favorite place in town and one of my favorite dystopian hope stories!

An imagined near future where people are benefiting and surviving and finding joy together in partial measures with their skills!
On Sunday, April 6th, I will be reading a two-voices, musically-accompanied, performance-style version of "The Year Without Sunshine" at the Bryant Lake Bowl as part of Cole Sarar's Science Fiction Reading Hour series:
