No, echo chambers are not a good thing. It’s better to have civilised debate and disagreement. It’s good to understand another point of view, even if we disagree. The problem is the trolls and their abuse, who have forced us to take refuge here. It’s a choice of last resort.
“Is it okay for a social media platform to be an echo chamber” back in the day we had websites and websites were generally focused on a single topic and if you were into that topic you would visit that website and if you weren’t into that topic you just didn’t go on that website and it was fine

I don’t agree with the popular claim ‘you can’t be a little autistic’, because I’m not even sure autism exists other than as a top-down, diagnostic tool. Given autism is a syndrome, its component parts are so varied and variable, the idea we can drop them in a box and slap a label on it, seems lazy.

I don’t agree with the popular claim ‘you can’t be a little autistic’, because I’m not even sure autism exists other than as a top-down, diagnostic tool. I’m more often reading how the double empathy problem (DEP) is a better explanation for communication difficulties than theory of mind (ToM). I can see how this could be seductive - DEP is not deficit focused so easier to ‘accept’ within the community. But there’s a problem…

So about ten years ago I found a small network of bots on Reddit dedicated to spreading hate. The thing about it is that these weren't even responding to political topics - they were just responding to random keywords with insults and hate.

this is kind of a niche issue but: if you are getting weird and hostile responses that feel a little off, there are some folks on here making accounts that automatically reply to large quantities of posts in a vaguely hostile manner. you can ignore them, and also, it's not personal
