He/him 🃏 Late 20s, PhD graduate & non-fiction author of Asexuality in Young Adult Fiction ✍️ but between you and me, my fan-fiction is better.
Reposting in lieu of JKR's latest tirade: I wrote a book & gained a doctorate degree analysing asexual characters in YA.

FWIW, my personal favourites are Summer Bird Blue (Akemi Dawn Bowman) & We Were Restless Things (Cole Nagamatsu), just in case you need a book rec as a HP palate cleanser.
My first book is out now! "Asexuality in Young Adult Fiction" with Cambridge University Press. 🤍💜🖤

This has only been my dream since I was about 7 years old. Back then, I'd have never believed my debut would be academic non-fiction. 📚

Thank you so much Jodi!!!! So happy to be your firstborn PhD student! 🤩
My very first PhD candidate Noah O'Connor, who graduated last year, has just published some of his doctoral research on representations of asexuality in YA as a short book! It's available for free download from Cambridge UP until next week.

Given the current rapid backslide in the US, I think it’s very important to note:

In the 90s & 00s, when pitching to traditional publishers, I was ALWAYS asked who the romantic interest would be

And in fact, had to fabricate one for a character I’d intended to be ace or get the series dropped.

I can't tell you how emotional it makes me that one of the most important people I cited in my book is THIS thrilled about my writing. 🥺 Dove, I'm so grateful to you!
It is SUPER supercool. I never ever dreamed someone in academia would build on my work. I CERTAINLY NEVER DREAMED THEY WOULD MAKE IT THIS COOL!

Fangirling aside: I’m stoked about the possibilities for shifting to a positive framework of discussing aspec rep this presents. 😍
This is free to read for 2 weeks.
