I want to take this moment during #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth to share a personal update. As many folks are aware, one year ago, in October 2024, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It motivated me to write on how the energy industry is linked to rising diagnoses 1/11 www.forbes.com/sites/kellyf...
How Reducing Reliance On Fossil Fuels May Also Combat Breast Cancer
Pollution from fossil fuel combustion produces carcinogens that have been linked to increasing rates of breast cancer.

Demand that dem leadership is held responsible for this
Important to understand this. There's a reasonable chance that your Dem Senator who voted against it and is acting mad now was in on the play. It's the same reason why they scheduled the surrender for AFTER the election this week. They didn't want people pissed at Dems right before an election.
The caucus meeting was just to orchestrate who would fall on the sword but not be up for a vote in 2026.

@doctorkflem.bsky.social makes the case!
On day one of his second term, President Trump declared a national energy emergency.

Instead of speeding up the connection of new energy sources to the grid, Trump followed with a budget request for FY26 that kneecaps energy innovation.

- There are full-on police checkpoints most nights
- Gangs of 30+ federal agents roam DC
- National Guard folks w/ guns patrolling a Harris Teeter
- Every day, multiple friends see ICE kidnapping ppl
- Daycares are scared to have kids go on walks due to ICE

Went ahead and updated my map of cities with higher crime than D.C. to accommodate the two new states from the Deep South who are sending troops to the capital. In the five states there are 64 cities, home to 1.7 million people, that had more crime in 2024 than D.C.

Friends on #energysky, I've joined @forbes.com as a contributor. My first story is on the importance of energy research investment on the US economy, and why the budget cuts proposed by the president are a threat to our grid and our position in the global economy. www.forbes.com/sites/kellyf...
Trump’s Cuts Could Exacerbate The Energy Emergency
The aging grid is in dire need of infrastructure upgrades. Instead of connecting new energy sources to the grid, Trump cut budgets for 2026, which may hinder innovation.

Sure did boss, real far away, just like you asked, true story.

What.

The climate crisis kills people. It has a cure: cut fossil fuels, increase renewable energy. Trump's tax bill just gutted that policy approach, so, we'll see more of this:

Death toll from Hill Country flash floods rises to 24 as rescue efforts continue
Local officials said they have rescued or evacuated more than 200 people since the Guadalupe River flooded early Friday morning, but the fate of more than 20 girls missing from a camp remains unclear.

I'm not proud of anything our country is currently doing, aside from the people speaking up, on this Fourth of July.
As a woman, as a scientist, as a climate policy expert, as a cancer survivor, as a person who will live on this planet for (hopefully) many more decades, I feel dread and profound sadness for the consequences of today's actions by 218 people and Tuesday's actions of 50 people.

Remember 3 years ago when there was a bill that passed the house with a $12,500 EV tax incentive? I miss those days

Elon Musk casually, and illegally, dismantled USAID. According to a new study in the Lancet, that action will lead to *14 million* premature deaths between 2025 and 2030.

Again: Elon Musk is directly responsible for 14 million coming deaths. 4.5 million will be children.

4/ A new tax break for coal companies! So the tax incentives for wind and solar are GONE, and the coal industry is getting NEW tax incentives.

It's official policy now to to not just deny global warming exists - but to actively make it WORSE.

it’s worth understanding that the future of our energy grid is renewables.

not going to change.

fossil & nuclear projects take much longer to build. a lot of demand is coming from AI and data centers.

this means higher electricity costs for you.

you’re paying for these credits going away.

This title should really read "GOP is on the verge of gutting economy."

TRYING to make wind and solar economically unviable while deregulating fossil fuels will not only ruin the planet, but hands China and the EU our innovations and IP to profit from. Again. This is so stupid and bad.
The GOP bill is much worse for wind and solar than clean energy experts expected. Many were scrambling today to understand exactly what the additional tax on wind and solar means -- and how much it will slow investment.

From me and Evan Halper:

GOP is on verge of sweeping victory in bid to gut clean energy economy
The Republican controlled Congress is poised to score a major victory for President Donald Trump by repealing green energy incentives that Democrats passed in the Inflation Reduction Act in 2022.
