Snark release valve and occasional insights into a man who may be going slightly mad from a dying world.
Man, I miss my college knees. Those were good knees.

While I am appalled at the glee and pomp the conservatives have for their new concentration camp, I would have a small quibble with calling it “Alligator Auschwitz”.

Democrats keep racking points in these off year elections, and I hope this continues into the mid terms, but I've gotten a buncha pillows around my torso just in case.

Status: Defensively optimistic.

I mean that, yes, it appears that bounty hunters and other paramilitary types are being sought and recruited.

It's a grim statement on how this regime is conducting itself, and one that's pretty ominous that a lot of unvetted assholes are taken off the leash as it were.

Something that came up - considering how slim the margin was, there's a decent chance that Gore would have won in 2000 with just a few breaks. Seems to me the world would be in a different, and maybe better, place.

Excellent observation here from @lemieuxlgm.bsky.social: "The question of whether Trump is primarily symptom or cause is settled by the fact that Trump’s most uncritical lickspittles and enablers on the Court are the two he didn’t appoint"
Court rules 7-2 against Trump administration's efforts to disappear people without due process - Lawyers, Guns & Money
The Trump administration has fully (and properly) lost the presumption of good faith in its AEA deportation process on the part of a majority of a Court, including four Republicans: By the standards o...

Hi everyone - is there anyone who can give me the name of a book or podcast or even just some blogs on how an espionage agency worked during the Cold War? And, especially anything that talks about private intelligence agencies?

It's stupid, but I wanted to write some fiction from the period.

I know it's a troll, but also too - go f* yerself, Lindsey.

Seriously, if he still thinks he's a good person after making a troll like that, he deserves to be slapped by every Catholic in America.

THE RISE OF END TIMES FASCISM

My first major piece of the new Trump era, co-written with @astra.bsky.social.

The governing ideology of the far right has become a
monstrous, supremacist survivalism.

Our task is to build a movement strong enough to stop them. www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-i...

I have heard very few 'American' jokes, like 'An American walks into a bar' sort of set up. Maybe Texan jokes or something. I fear that we're about to be starting to hear some very soon and I'm not super jazzed to start hearing them... but I'm also concerned that we'll have earned them.

The Trump Administration is an unstable coalition of zealots, con men, fascists and vacuous techbros who they can will their goals into reality, despite it being demonstrably bad from GO.

There was a story by Turtledove about an alien species that invaded Earth, but the problem was that while they were 'advanced', that advancement had stalled at wheellock muskets and basic gunpowder, not death rays. They weren't ready for machine guns and jets.
This show is incredible. Common Side Effects (streaming on Max and/or Adult Swim) pulls a bait-and-switch where you think it's going to be this black-and-white conflict between an idealist genius and evil corporate/government goons but it doesn't let you off that easy...

This is from Newsweek, which I consider to be 'not great'. But, it came across my feed anyway.
And I knew they were doing this anyway... but the urge to find the vents to these places and load them up with rotten fish then close them up is.... tempting.

To add insult to all the other outrages - the betrayal of Ukraine, the storming of federal agencies by a gang of Musk sniffing edgelords, the fight with Canada - he can't even bring the price of eggs down.

Worst. Apocalypse. Ever.

Watching Trump and his flying monkeys rapidly disassemble the pieces of the government along ideological lines as set out by a drug mad technobro, a band of christofascist zealots and his own sense of aggrievement and hubris is breathtaking in its suicidal audacity.

They are really going for it.

I'm just some schmuck on the internet, like most of us. I have an opinion about policy preferences, and I like to think that I'm a little better informed than the average person. That being said - with the Trump nominees and the outright disregard of the 14A, everyone's hair should be on fire.

Hegseth is being utterly dragged by Dems in his confirmation as someone who absolutely would turn on the public if ordered to by Trump on the merest pretext, is morally impaired by both addiction and his history of sexual assault, and lacks the basic competence needed to fulfill his duties.

I keep hearing that Trump is going to start with 'Shock and Awe' from day 1. And there are a lot of ways to take that, but I am grimly anticipating that this is going to be 'against us'. And while that will be bad, it's also going to amuse the same Pepe avatars and Musk sniffers, just because.
January 13, 2025 at 2:30 AM
While it's amusing to watch many of Trump's picks implode on the tiniest amount of vetting, I would point out that the media would try the same rigorous examination if Harris had won. The difference is 'Is a drunk who assaults women' versus 'Performatively likes jazz'.

Now, no one asked for my opinion on what to do with the increase of AI scraping data from sources to make the products more believable. But, I think that, if you are a creator of any sort of content, you should probably insert some gibberish into it, just to confuse them.
