After the work I did updating my Environmental Science and Natural Hazards resources pages, of course our federal government has fully embarked on a program of destroying science and education. So, more updates and if anyone has any suggestions let me know.🧪⚒️

I can't access this government website / data set because ...

a) of the shutdown
b) the federal governments purge of climate/environmental/natural hazard related materials
c) they moved everything, again
d) the internet gremlins have decided to mess with my head
or e) all the above.

btw-AAAAA!

On Friday, NYS DEC greenlit a Title V permit for Greenidge, an older inefficient fossil-fuel based power plant which is used to power cryptomining.
34 of 40 Title Vs in WNY are expired.
We need @governor.ny.gov to prioritize the backlog to protect our health and safety over data center profiteering!

Fran Drescher's Nanny character is voicing the ethics video I am required to watch and I think my brain is melting.

I also love that I have to worry about accepting two cups of coffee from the same source and can't accept any gifts worth more than $15 while our whole government is like this. AAAA!

1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

I feel like this is an important aspect to emphasize, loudly, to everyone who endorsed Cuomo. they chose to side with a known sexual predator for personal gain and frankly that should be disqualifying for public office. you knew who he was and decided the women he hurt were acceptable losses
it's been a really bad long shitty time for people who care about victims of rape and sexual abuse, and those who've suffered it. drubbing someone who perpetrated it gleefully and believed he was entitled to power despite it is part of this.

Well this is horrible.
thank you for all the support; the statement from our union is now live here with some more reporting.

now that this is public I can confirm that the majority of today’s layoffs were women of color. there are no longer any Black women working at Teen Vogue.

NOAA’s National Weather Service holds the federal responsibility for tsunami warnings, and has historically been a primary supporter of seismic data collection in Alaska
NOAA cancels longstanding funding for seismic data collection crucial to tsunami warning systems
The Alaska Earthquake Center has long provided NOAA with seismic data for tsunami monitoring and warning purposes. That work will wind down in November, after the federal agency said it can no longer fund the contract.

Many important weather and climate data streams have gone silent as the U.S. government shutdown continues on.

As just one example, NOAA’s Global Monitoring Laboratory did not release its regular monthly update for greenhouse gases, such as for carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide.

I left my coffee travel mug, with the coffee in it, in my car and I am having a terrible time working up enough energy to get up and go get it. I need some coffee so that I have enough energy to get my coffee. Sigh.

People in the replies going, "you can use (something else), it doesn't have/use GenAI/LLMs" and "you can turn it off on Word--for now", aka, individual solutions for a societal problem.

And if there's one thing we really need to learn, in a fucking hurry, is that you can't stop Armageddon that way.
HEAR, HEAR!

Amazing how fast we got to the point where “I would like an intact and functioning NWS”, “I think an agency monitoring for disease outbreaks is a good idea” & “I think the White House should be intact” have all become partisan political statements.

the answer to the trolley problem is not to pick who to sacrifice, it’s to dismantle the system that led to an unsafe trolley crossing.

if any part of your morality strategy involves picking a group to let die on a hill, throw the entire strategy out. it’s wrong.
