As we saw in the latest #Neuralink Summer 2025 update, the more electrodes we have, the more neurons can be recorded. They are planning to implant into multiple brain regions, ultimately aiming to reach every cell in the whole brain.

Capturing the Electrical Activity of all Cortical Neurons: Are Solutions Within Reach?
Despite advancements in implantable electrode technology, challenges persist in scaling up these devices to record most of the neuronal activity across the cortex. This review explores the limitation...

Learning and language in the unconscious human hippocampus
Consciousness is a fundamental component of cognition, but the degree to which higher-order perception relies on it remains disputed. Here we demonstrate the persistence of learning, semantic processi...

The coolest result, IMO, is active prediction of upcoming words in the sequence, suggesting that hippocampus is involved in the process of using information about current words to predict future words, even in the absence of consciousness.
