Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi are already black holes for detention. Now obtaining release will be more difficult than ever. As more and more people are locked up, ICE will increase the pressure on those who are detained to give up.

Moving this up from replies because I think we all need to at long last look at Trump’s rhetorical violence as not just “distraction” or “weakness” but declaration of IRL violent intention or at least contemplation. Whether it’s weakness or distraction it’s very often followed by real violence.
Maybe another way of saying this is such usage seems to me to be a significant step toward arresting Obama, as he’s floated before. I still think it’s unlikely or a ways off, but I think this is him significantly further rhetorically prepping such an attack.

Bad idea. ICE is pre-funded by the BBB. Also, CBP is just as bad if not worse and also pre-funded by the BBB. Severing ICE gives away any leverage we have to shut down the rest of DHS. We should be demanding to defund ICE/CBP of its BBB money and shut down ALL of DHS if they don’t agree.

Off course I knew it could happen here. I had nightmares about it as a teen, and as a young woman. Then I relegated the thought to intellect, to talking about it in the abstract, always aware that I was like a child, afraid of shadows, but shadows of real monsters. That that is how it turns out.

If the Feds or these states adopt the 2024 IBC, this conversion from warehouse to detention (I-3 occupancy) should trigger a wind & seismic upgrade.
Just sayin', if they used the building code to make it harder to build abortion clinics, this is a much more justified application.

Floored by this story. A man wrote a pollite email to a federal prosecutor objecting to the deportation of an Afghan seeking asylum. DHS responded with an administrative warrant to get the man's info from Google, then visited his home to intimidate him.

Exactly. And refuge-seeking is what many "liberals" do to feel safe while "standing with" a position or people.
