Kids there to watch the oath of office and a day of service at county food banks for first official day and a half.

I'm so glad we elected this person to lead our county.

Sworn in early, Exec Zahilay is ready to shake up King County
Surrounded by kids from the audience and holding his baby daughter, Girmay Zahilay was sworn in Tuesday as the 10th King County executive and the youngest ever to hold the position.

Just sent my nearly 2 year old accommodation request to new staff for the 3rd time! I love being disabled and having rights! It is not at all a systemic burden placed on individuals just trying to have their basic needs met!

It’s really depressing when the state of housing advocacy is: Do disabled people deserve accessible housing or will market rate developers scream, cry, and stomp???

CW - hate/racism

Know what the biggest threat is? It's HATE.

Have yet to meet a horrible Muslim. In fact, they've all been lovely. They come here (or were born here) wanting a better life. They work hard and love their families/kids. Just like most people in this country

This needs to stop.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said that Muslims are a “threat to our freedom” on Tuesday as he targeted the largest Muslim civil rights organization in the U.S. with a foreign terrorist organization label in an escalation of a movement of anti-Muslim hate in the state.
Abbott Says Muslims Are “Threat to Our Freedom” as He Targets Civil Rights Group With Terrorist Designation
Governors do not have the authority to designate groups as a foreign terrorist organization.

My personal “Don’t give to the Salvation Army” story:
When I was homeless in 2019, the Salvation Army shelter refused to give me a bed (even though they were available), because I was on immunosuppressant meds and they didn’t want to be responsible or liable if I got more sick or died on premises. They’d rather I die on the street.
It’s dinner time for the police. Appears to be pizza from a Salvation Army van.

Broadview’s “free speech” curfew starts soon, at 6pm.

The mayor-elect of Seattle fucking Washington standing in a picket line for Starbucks workers hours after her victory speech. This rules so hard
It’s #SolidaritySeason and we’re joining @sbworkersunited.bsky.social baristas in their fight for a fair contract. Seattle’s newly elected mayor, Katie Wilson, joined our Seattle rally today to stand with workers, too.

DON’T BUY STARBUCKS! ☕🚫

I look forward to working closely with Mayor-elect Wilson to address homelessness, improve public safety, and make Seattle and King County more affordable places to live.

I called Mayor-elect Wilson to extend my congratulations. It’s been a very long time since King County and Seattle have both elected new leaders at the same time. That means we have an opportunity for a true reset, to try new strategies and form new partnerships to tackle our region’s challenges.

We took on a powerful incumbent who was expected to coast to reelection.

We faced more corporate PAC money than has ever been spent attacking a candidate in a Seattle election.

We built a people-powered movement rooted in hope for our city’s future.

And we won.

This is YOUR city!

Also continuing the dialogue online about SA...

Watch this.

I want a mayor who says things like this.

I want everyone to have a mayor like this.

But as of today, Seattle will actually have a mayor who DOES say this.

I can't wait for the future in Seattle/King County. I love my home and I am so proud we elected people who genuinely want to make it better.

Since we're having this nice dialogue about SA today, who would like to take a guess at the % of disabled women who are SAd in their lives?

Let's also remember that because rape is underreported, the number will be higher.

And it's at least 40-80% btw.

But no one really tracks or talks about that

No, what's happened in Seattle and King County in this election is just as, if not more, significant than NY.

People only looking at Mayor Wilson aren't seeing the whole picture.

We have the ability to completely shake it up. If our new elected folks deliver even a fraction of what they hope to...
Local media is calling it: Katie Wilson will be the next mayor of Seattle.

Wilson ousts Mayor Bruce Harrell after running as a progressive challenger.

Her win is a west coast companion to Mamdani’s as a statement victory for the left.

Almost 2,000 votes ahead which is the recount threshold and there are still some left to count!

I used to work next to an authorized Tent City. It spilled into the area I worked in a tiny amount. They'd sweep that area and the people would move just down the street.
“Sweeps are helping people get shelter” this is literally not true they are on the next block the next day

England doesn't understand it either.
Americans might not understand it, but in many cultures it’s considered bad or even immoral to be a child rapist

I really think Katie Wilson is going to be the next mayor of Seattle.

A community organizer as mayor. A social worker on city council. A county executive who is an immigrant and refugee and has been poor and homeless.

We really might have it all soon. Is that even possible?
