The #NoMouse Challenge is a global effort to raise awareness about accessible web design. Try using your website without a mouse. Use the keyboard instead. Is it possible to access all features and operate all buttons, sliders, and other controls?

Ever been told “We’ll do accessibility later”? Or worse, ignored entirely?
I’ve been there too. A lot. So I created a talk called “How to Convince People to Care and Invest in Accessibility”. I turned it into a full article that you can now read on my blog:

#Accessibility is a civil right. It’s not a checklist and it’s not new. Thx @dredf.bsky.social for the reminder that today is the 26th anniversary of #WCAG 1.0 (Web Content, Accessibility Guidelines ). And reminding me of what I wrote when WCAG turned 20! #a11y

Don't hack #accessibility features of crossing signals. It's not a joke. It's a safety risk, civil rights violation, an unethical thing to do. Yes, someone did hack signals in Palo Alto with the "voice" of musk + zuckerberg. I wrote about it here: www.lflegal.com/2025/04/aps-... #blind #disability

Something I've learned is that people like to say accessibility is hard, but for all of the wrong reasons. Does it take time, thoughtful consideration, learning? Yes. But most often what they mean by hard, is that they have made previous technical and design decisions that exacerbate it.

Comparing Manual and Free Automated WCAG Reviews
Automated accessibility testing tools cannot test 100% of WCAG. This position is not controversial. Other than overlay vendors, no automated tool maker makes that claim. This is partly because WCAG is...

✨ Hire disabled people ✨ Please, I'm begging. I work on the technical side of advocacy. I am always seeking input from the actual people affected because, try as I might to learn more, I'll never have the full picture/context for a lot of accessibility needs. It's such a gap in most businesses.
Disabilities can sometimes have accessibility needs that conflict with others. While it might not be a daily conflict it happens often enough that it highlights the need for understanding of accessibility beyond technical knowledge. Having an understanding of the disabilities affected,

`aria-label` and `aria-labelledby` aren't allowed on divs, spans, and other static text elements out of the box, and *most* screenreaders won't announce them.

Don’t Use aria-label on Static Text Elements
Don’t use the aria-label or aria-labelledby attributes on divs, spans, or other elements representing static/noninteractive text-level semantics, unless you’re also updating roles.

Reminder: don’t use placeholders instead of labels. They disappear when users start typing, placing unnecessary strain on memory, causing confusion, and making it hard to identify or fix errors. This is even worse for people with accessibility needs.
Placeholders in Form Fields Are Harmful
Labels or sample text inside a form field makes it difficult for people to remember what information belongs in that field once they start data entry.
