I WILL BECOME GOD.
You know, I somehow never noticed prior to this festival that the National Lottery Hand Logo had a face on it.

I thought Kawamori was Washed, but Labyrinth was a better Hosoda movie than that guy ever directed.

The sheer number of callbacks to other things he’s been involved in is pretty insane - the DYRL, Macross Plus and Aquarion references are in-your-face obvious, but there’s even stuff you could attribute to Arjuna in there.

In one word: Incredible.

In two words: utterly deranged.

Shoji Kawamoris Labyrinth might actually be my favourite movie of the year, but I kinda don’t really want to spoil anything.

(Just got out of my second viewing of Labyrinth and, yeah, this is still my favourite movie playing this festival. Not what I think is the best, mind you - that’s Last Blossom - but it’s the most on my wavelength)

I can’t even begin to describe Labyrinth, the new movie by Shoji Kawamori. If you are familiar with, say, Aquarion, then you know he can get pretty out there sometimes. Imagine a Hosoda Internet Movie filtered through the lens of Arjuna and you might be about 50% of the way there, though. Loved it.

100 Meters is incredible and also demented in the way only a sports anime can be. every 4 minutes someone says something to the effect of "running makes me human, living is agony, and if i run exactly fast enough i can become immortal"

Not sure why I’m so exhausted sleepy when pretty much all I’ve done today is sit in a cinema for four movies…

One thing I will say that is interesting about ChaO is that they just straight-up have credits for the English and French subtitles for it in the main credits.

The Last Blossom is a sentimental, if often hilarious, drama in which an incarcerated gangster is berated for his life choices by a sarcastic talking plant, from the director and writer combo behind Odd Taxi. It’s about as good as that sounds, which is to say it’s a terrific movie.

The Scotland Loves Anime promo poster is really cute this year, but I am worried that they seem to have replaced Ribbon Girl in their friend group.

Probably going to regret this about halfway through Redline this afternoon…

Oh, right, Endless Waltz today huh… rewatched Wing recently, but don’t think I’ve seen EW since the original US DVD release of it…

There were a few minutes after the intro where I was starting to get worried that 100m might be a little too orthodox looking a movie after the directors previously wild Ongaku. I needn’t have been worried, though the design of that one girl in the highschool arc did just make me think of Mob100.

Were learning that Tatsuya Nagamine, the director of Heartcatch Precure, and one of Toei's finest creative voices, passed away over the summer...

Its honestly a shock... and so young, at just 54.

Rest in peace Nagamine... thank you for everything 😢

I am now at a screening of Golgo 13 and kinda wondering how much of this audience will be going into this blind…
November 12, 2025 at 8:35 PM
Oh, huh, the producer of Fujimoto 17-26 was at the SLA screening and literally handed out opinion forms for audience feedback on each of the shorts afterwards. Can’t say I’ve seen that happen at one of these screenings before.

I think that’s the first time I’ve noticed the “Spartan X-Ko” poster in Project A-Ko, which is a very funny good if you know where the movies name comes from.
