Mountainhead starts with the AI-driven total collapse of global socioeconomic order. Then it gets dark.

Go provides a “simple” fake file system for testing (pkg.go.dev/testing/fste...).

I spent the day discovering that MapFS totally ignores the permission bits on its files.

Dagnabbit.

Am I going to have to write my own fake file system?

I think Kristi Noem knows perfectly well what habeas corpus means. Her answer wasn’t out of ignorance. It was spin. She took the question as an opportunity to further the administration’s narrative that the writ of habeas corpus serves at the pleasure of the President.

When you force yourself to articulate the mechanics of story, what makes something compelling, it allows you to think more deeply about your own work. Instead of just doing something because it *feels* right, you start writing with more intention and understanding.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again--critique a lot. Help other people with their writing. Analyze the work you like and figure out why you like it. Write down the why and the steps they took to get there. CRITIQUE A LOT.

It’s going to be hard to find a Fox News host more qualified than Hegseth.

What’s a good cloud storage service for backup these days?

I found AWS unfathomable. So unfathomable that I no longer know how to log in.

Which is why I'm looking for a cloud storage service.

I do not need or want sync. Just backup/restore. I’ll manage my backups via Arq (www.arqbackup.com).

In this video I show, in detail, how Bitwig’s Key Filter device corrects foreign notes. The rule is this: Replace each foreign input note with the note that has the same scale degree and the opposite quality.

Clearly the best way to make government more efficient is to threaten to fire every federal employee who doesn’t interrupt their work and spend their time justifying their existence to an unelected bureaucrat who has shown them only utter disdain.

Computer folks make heavy use of ASCII. Each letter, punctuation mark, and common symbol gets assigned a numeric code.

For example, capital X is 88.

Well humbug. Inoreader's Bluesky integration offers no way to filter out reposts. I generally do not want to see reposts. So I can't use Inoreader as my primary Bluesky reader. So the Pro upgrade offers no value for me.

While I'm grumbling… I wish Bluesky offered a per-user way to ignore reposts.

My grandmother was the world’s leading retroactive astrologer. Whatever happened to you, she would look it up in her charts and declare, “I could have told you that was going to happen.”

Every explanation of what just happened to some stock market or stock sounds just like my grandmother.

I had thought of Trump's appointees' inexperience/incompetence as an issue separate from their far right/antidemocratic sympathies, but Ruth Ben-Ghiat points out that the former, too, suits the purposes of a would-be strongman.

Daniel Kahneman named the "What You See Is All There Is" (WYSIATI) cognitive bias that forms a coherent narrative from what it visible, and ignores the fact that there are other facts outside your visibility.

In this situation, acting on that cognitive bias has effect the opposite of what you want.
It's amazing to me that people are blaming the Democrats for not being able to stop this.

I made a “root-indexed” pitch class arpeggiator in #Bitwig Grid. You can use incoming notes as indexes to arpeggiate the harmony on another track. The indexes pick the pitch classes of the harmony, starting from the root note of the harmony.
