A national coalition building power through collective advocacy, grassroots organizing, & strategic communications to abolish immigration detention in the U.S. #FreeThemAll #AbolishDetention
Local communities are courageously taking on ICE to fight detention warehouses from entering their towns and winning! People are uniting together, uplifting their shared values to welcome people & keep everyone safe, calling on businesses to take a stand, & demanding ICE out of their communities.
ICE wanted this Kansas City warehouse. The people resisted and won.
"This decision wouldn’t have happened without several weeks of protest and collective action by low-wage workers,” one organizer said.

“The violence we see today is a direct consequence of the $170 billion that Congress handed to Homeland Security in last year’s reconciliation bill, fueling the administration’s mass detention & deportation agenda at an unprecedented scale, “ said Setareh, from DWN in an op-ed for the @thehill.com

ICE has now spent over half a BILLION dollars just on purchasing warehouses around the country to convert into detention camps.

If these mega-camps are utilized to the full capacity ICE intends, they'll be the largest prisons in the country, with little real oversight. www.ajc.com/politics/202...

🚨👀 This is powerful.

Over 1,000 (ONE THOUSAND) orgs are asking Congress to "refuse to provide" one more dollar to ICE & CBP and "take action to revoke the tens of billions" given by the reconciliation (Trump's big ugly bill).

Key ask of the letter that just went to Congress. ↘️

I've been doing politics professionally for 20 years and I don't think I've ever seen 1,000 groups sign onto anything. 100 groups is usually a massive number. 1,000 is almost incomprehensible.

I am introducing the Melt ICE Act to end funding for immigrant detention and monitoring.

We have seen the danger in infusing resources into DHS’s abuses of power. Funding for ICE is fuel for human suffering.

It’s time to start melting ICE.

NEW analysis from DWN’s executive director,
@silkys13.bsky.social on the mass deportation agenda during 2025. The passage of the funding bill allocating $170 billion to immigration enforcement was an ominous milestone in the history of U.S. immigration policy & the Trump admin's aspiring facism.
After Congress allocated an additional $170 billion for immigration enforcement in July, ICE became the largest law enforcement agency in the country, with a bigger budget than the Bureau of Prisons, FBI, and most militaries in the world.
Trump Has Made ICE the Largest Law Enforcement Agency in the Country
With Congress-approved funding, ICE detention is expected to triple in size, mirroring the scale of Japanese internment.
