I've watched thousands of videos from the Jan. 6 riot as part of NPR's reporting and archive project on that day.

Here are some of the lesser known videos that have really stuck with me.

The previous modern standard for murdering people en masse while effecting an arrest warrant involved members of a Waco religious cult (76), or group home occupants (11) in West Philadelphia or the Chicago abode of some Blank Panthers (2 dead, more wounded). Trump now holds the record.
in how many "law enforcement operations" are damn near 100 people killed?

There's a lot I dislike about this guy, but if Hair Furor's fragile ego needs to give him a platform like this to kick that big fat orange ass around, I'm fine with it.
Four generations of my family have served our country. Service is in my blood. The President wouldn’t know anything about that.

How soon before WaPo dumps George Will for being insufficiently jingoistic. This is where we are now, folks.

It's a sad situation when foreign leaders across the political spectrum can denounce Trump's unlawful action in clearer and harsher terms than the supposed leaders of the so-called opposition party in Congress. Schumer and Jeffries are worthless.

When it comes to the crackdown on fraudulent activity in Minnesota, “the administration’s preferred narrative has been advanced in widespread coverage by corporate media outlets,” writes @matthewccook5.bsky.social with @exposedbycmd.bsky.social:

Corporate Media Advances Conservative Narrative About Minnesota Fraud  - The American Prospect
As Trump makes racist attacks on Somali immigrants, media giants CBS, Fox, The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times parrot claims from a weaponized DOJ and self-interested players.

The real story here is that his doctor has told him, not once but THREE TIMES, that he needs to take a cognitive exam.

His own government says that "Cognitive testing is used if a person shows signs of a problem with memory, thinking, or other brain functions."

A lot of the coverage of Mamdani is predicated on the idea that socialism is necessarily an economic system of mass impoverishment, and this is by design: the very wealthy want people to imagine that any system where the rich end up less well off will lead everyone else to be poorer too.
If Zohran Mamdani was really a socialist he would wear a potato sack and only eat cold cans of beans. Let me know when Mr. Mayor is serious about the movement.

There's a lot to hate about POLITICO—especially its cynical horse-race coverage that completely skirts questions of truth. But they do excel at getting insiders to go on the record, and they can sometimes produce in-depth reports about political boondoggles. Like this one. Well worth a read.

The Judiciary Committee just released the transcript of special counsel Jack Smith's testimony, and it tells you how well the Republicans think the session went for them that they've decided to dump it on New Year's Eve. Here's a sample of Smith eating their faces:

The subtext here – although the Wall Street Journal buries the lede – is that Mar-a-Lago was using its spa in the late 1990s and early 2000s to traffic teenage girls to Jeffrey Epstein. Even Trump‘s wife at the time, Marla Maples, knew there was something wrong with the arrangement.
Exclusive | The Incident That Prompted Trump to Ban Epstein From Mar-a-Lago’s Spa
Mar-a-Lago sent an 18-year-old spa worker on a house call to Jeffrey Epstein in 2003. She complained to her bosses that Epstein pressured her for sex.

Since 1975, $79 trillion in wealth has been redistributed from the bottom 90% to the top 1% — a 1% that now owns more wealth than the bottom 93%.

We can respect innovation & entrepreneurship, but we cannot respect the extraordinary greed that now exists.

We need a wealth tax.

Acting Director of Cybersecurity Agency demands to see top-secret data.

Director is told he needs to take a polygraph.

Director says fine.

Director fails polygraph.

Six career staffers responsible for organizing polygraph are suspended while DHS investigates them.

Makes perfect sense.
Acting CISA director failed a polygraph. Career staff are now under investigation.
At least six career staff were placed on leave after DHS opened an investigation into whether they misled the agency’s acting director, Madhu Gottumukkala, into taking the test.

This Yglesias piece in the NYT is horrifically bad. Almost every "fact" it cites is provably false. At best it is cocktail party banter from a pundit who knows nothing of energy. At worst, it was cut/paste from oil industry talking points. So, a rebuttal: www.nytimes.com/2025/12/18/o...
