A reminder that humans are capable of great acts of wonder when we work together & embrace knowledge.

An international team of astronomers has discovered swarms of cold comets circling 74 nearby stars -- and got clear pictures of these "exocomet belts." 🧪🔭

"It’s disappointing to see that Xcel ratepayers might have received many millions of dollars more in this land sale. It sure would have been nice to have that $65 million, especially when Xcel is asking to raise rates yet again.”

Xcel sold land for a data center. It was flipped to Amazon for 10 times more money.
Minnesota utility regulators say they didn’t know the buyer’s intentions when they approved the deal.

After applying bird-safe film to the building, the 18 bird deaths at Chicago's Lakeside Center during migration season this past fall compared with 1,280 deaths in fall 2023 and 771 in fall 2022.

US Bank Stadium will need $280M in maintenance and upgrades in coming decade. The film costs ~$2M.
Remember when the millionaire—nay, BILLIONAIRE—owners of the Vikings repeatedly REFUSED to adopt safety film for their taxpayer-subsidized stadium?

First they said they couldn’t afford it (give me a break.) Then they admitted they just didn’t want to do it.

Gov't officials, plus electric utilities are still hashing out how to manage this explosive growth while keeping the lights on, complying our 2040 carbon-free law, and limiting financial risk.

Data centers could lower bills & shower us with construction jobs. www.startribune.com/mega-data-ce...
The staggering power needs of Minnesota data centers
Big tech is flooding Minnesota with data centers. They could be lucrative and lower electric bills. Some fear eye-popping power demand will threaten climate goals.

Though this 1937 film, Manhattan Merry Go Round has some suggestive moments that you didn’t see much of afterwards.
