Okay, I’ll admit it: my most normie-lib take is that I always found the Trump-Russia stuff fairly compelling.

I’ve had *some* success w/ students by posing Qs about athletes in the men’s category, e.g. “If levels of T ‘outside of typical’ is about ‘fairness’ shouldn‘t we test folks in the men’s category too?”
Out of Left Field: Episode 1

This is the first of bi-weekly conversations between our co-hosts about current issues in sport (and beyond).

In this episode we catch up on the state of the world after our hiatus.

Oh, and we share a podcast-altering announcement. 👀

Precisely. The truth is that sport has never had anything whatsoever to do with fairness.

Bodies are different. Resources and access are stratified.

Sport *never* matters more than human well-being. And we should never accept the premise that losing at sport is an actual commensurate form of harm.

Hey tenureds at the University of Minnesota — where are you?
This should be reputation-shattering for the University of Minnesota.

Absolutely boycott-worthy that they are full collaborators.

Oh yeah, there was a noise protest there....I wanna say Tuesday. Maybe Wednesday. I dunno, the days have been kinda blurring together lately.
So this is unbelievably vile. From someone I consider a very trusted source.

What is most galling to me is the refusal to take responsibility for the moral panic over trans inclusion in sport by those responsible for instigating it.

Before, no one cared because NO ONE WAS HARMED BY TRANS INCLUSION.

No one.

But they fanned the flames and collaborated with MAGA.

Et voila.
I have a better idea. We travel back in time. The @democrats.org do not pretend humans can change sex. They defend women's and girls rights to single sex services provisions and sports, when sex matters. They do not gift the election to Trump. ICE does not exist.

ICE out here doing its best to inject abolition in the veins of the mainstream

Yeah. Tenured folks need to *use the privilege provided by tenure*. The answer is definitely not a *more* precarious faculty system.
A too large proportion of tenured folks refuse to acknowledge the crisis of precarious in higher ed.

However.

In a moment when the ability of anyone to speak publicly without repercussion is under threat and all university admins push precarity, abandoning the best protection is not the way.
You know, AHA has been surprisingly pretty good and on a personal level I was pleasantly surprised at how well I’ve handled it emotionally.

But it also reaffirmed that tenure needs to go, and the *minimum* ask for tenured and tenure-track faculty is abolishing it.

Not claiming they’re corrosive to a lesser degree, I’m claiming they’re MORE corrosive in non-academic unions

Tenure itself has contributed to shielding all academic workers from much worse two-tiered conditions the rest of us face, not just security, but pay, benefits, protection from reprisal
