Unfortunately, Sportscasting has made the decision to close down their NBA department, which means my time working with them has come to an end.

That said, I will be looking for an outlet willing to hire an NBA writer full-time/part-time. You won't regret having me on, I promise you that.

We found that Jeff Bezos paid *zero* taxes in 2007 and 2011.

In fact, he reported making so little in 2011 that he even claimed and received a $4,000 tax credit for his children.

This is how he did it (published 2021):

Bawling my eyes out at this. THIS is why we need art and culture. THIS is why language and literacy is so important. It’s all there, to be gleaned. As he says, 400 years ago! Twas ever thus.

This is a lot of talk that misses the central point. The proposed wealth tax in California is not about fixing the budget. It’s about creating a trial balloon for taxing enormous wealth.

If we can do it, it’ll prove it’s possible. Then we can move to fine-tune it and expand it to other states.
Opinion | Billionaires aren’t going to flee California. Others will without a budget fix

No, California won't experience a billionaire exodus over a proposed wealth tax. But the initiative cramps efforts to fix the state budget.

I really wish we could draft @buffywicks.bsky.social to run for Governor. She has the right priorities and is good at asking smart questions and working toward actual solutions. So refreshing.

Recommend this thread on #housing in CA.
California has made real progress on land use and permitting — but we still aren’t building housing at the scale we need.

One reason: the way we build homes hasn’t kept pace with innovation. That’s what our new Select Committee is focused on.
