I loved working on this story about UW undergrad Leo Diaz's work in Yijie Geng's lab. They are studying how pesticides influence autism, and how a chemical naturally produced in our gut might have promise as a future treatment.
Today is National First-Generation College Celebration! Leonardo Diaz, a first-gen @uofwa.bsky.social undergrad, recently made a discovery that could inspire drug treatments for autism.

We are just one day out from the Seattle local elections! Only 17.6% of King County voters and just under 20% of Seattle voters have returned their ballots. So far, only 1 in 17 young gen Z voters have voted, compared to more than 1 in 3 boomers. Don't forget to vote if you are eligible and want to.

The depth of the shame of a country this wealthy and abundant allowing its people to go hungry is impossible to measure. The fact that a handful of people could fix this by paying their fair share of taxes while still remaining obscenely wealthy makes it even worse.

At tonight’s Seattle school board meeting, director Liza Rankin is calling for a resumption of the mass school closure process that the district abandoned last year in the face of widespread public opposition. This isn’t a surprise. I wrote last month about her determination to force austerity:
Op-Ed: Closing Seattle Schools Is Still a Bad Idea » The Urbanist
# Last week school board director Liza Rankin wrote a memo to her colleagues suggesting a major new round of austerity for the Seattle Public Schools that could revive a plan to close numerous schools...

No one would be confused about what's happening if you saw it in another country. No one.
Let's keep focused on the broader pattern here. I've outlined it in six bullet points below. Viewed all in one place, it's quite ominous:
