Engineering manager, board game fan, lives in Oregon, he/him. Tolerant of all but the intolerant.
Someone in a board game discussion group asked about “3-8 second games”, and I suggested Rock Paper Scissors: Legacy as a joke, and now I kinda want to imagine what that would actually look like

In Japan, tourism to Portland, Oregon, is promoted by a grinning blue monster named Odnarodude. He’s at a Portland artisan event in Jiyugaoka De Aone this weekend.

I have decided: I don't need to know that the shipping label was created. Keep me in the dark on that. Come back to me when something real is happening

“And this is one of the things that I don’t love about large language model AI, the notion that you can think about something but then have a machine write it for you because it means you’ve never thought about it.” Great interview with @danthurot.bsky.social

I’ve seen many board game stores close in my time, so as I’m sitting with friends playing in the largely-empty second room of a game store while drinking the complimentary soda they offer, my gamer-spidey-sense-of-impending-doom is going off like crazy, not gonna lie.

Played Elysium for the first time, from the olden times of 2015. Moved quickly and had some interesting decisions, I dig it.

Board gamers, remember: when @watchitplayed.tv says “return these other cards to The Box”, in any of his videos, this is always The Box he is referring to

"but we can't support trans rights, it's unpopular!"

just a reminder that US approval for marriage between black and white people at the start of the civil rights movement was 4%, reaching a whopping 20% by the end of the movement

it's 95% now

you don't wait for popularity for a rights movement

The eye exam is the perfect game design. That big E is a great tutorial that teaches you the basic mechanic. But it doesn't baby you and quickly gets hard as they introduce the small and blurry enemies.

Did you know your MacBook has a sensor that knows the exact angle of the screen hinge?

It’s not exposed as a public API, but I figured out a way to read it and make it sound like an old wooden door.

Confused writing is usually a symptom of confused thinking. As we struggle to clarify writing, we clarify our thoughts. AI writing aids rob us of that struggle, leaving clean-looking text and thoughts still confused for lack of inspection. Writing is not just a product; it is a diagnostic tool.
