At risk of flogging a dead horse: this whole letter is a reminder that the creative process is an end in and of itself, and vital to self-actualisation. You can’t experience BECOMING, as he puts it, by outsourcing it to ChatGPT.
In 2006 a high school English teacher asked students to write to a famous author & ask for advice.

KURT VONNEGUT - born 103yrs ago today - was the only one to respond.

His reply was a doozy.

Whenever I get (very appreciated) compliments about the quiet intimacy in my work - I can trace it back to growing up with «Le Lit» by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. It hung in my parents’ bedroom and I would look at it every day, inventing stories about the two women.

Kim Davis has been fighting to overturn gay marriage for years.

She’s been fighting to be absolved of denying a marriage license to a gay couple

Today she lost her last shot at an appeal.

The Supreme Court denied her request to hear her case and ordered her to pay $360,000!

For Arc Raiders to ride the wave of human sociability all the way to the bank, while also being so contemptuous of the thing that makes us social animals in its own workflow demonstrates a lack of artistic integrity that I find impossible to ignore.

The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.

Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)

I think more and more Democrats are moving into the "burn it all down" camp because they understand the threat, but the party is not fully there for the reason Bouie lays out below. Republicans know this and can use it against Democrats.
seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous

Tonight’s Senate vote on the federal government shutdown should have been a time for strength.

Instead we saw capitulation and a betrayal of working Americans.

The American people need more from their leaders.
