Hoo boy, the Coalition has collapsed. Yes they will probably reform before the next election, but this is still very significant. It will give the Nats a chance to go further right, and the Libs a chance to moderate, assuming Ley doesn't get rolled

@rbreich.bsky.social this seems like one of those things that flies under the radar but is actually really important. Why would the Trump admin do this? Is it just to fudge GDP, unemployment, and other economic numbers in the future?

Or is there some other reason?

Um…its because we are burning so many fossil fuels.

The media are unable to link fossil fuels to climate change to the damage of climate change

Burning coal, oil & gas heats oceans and atmosphere &causes more storms, bigger storms, more damage and higher insurance premiums.

Its not complicated

I can't help but think with all this news about Dutton and his investment portfolio, Albanese is going to call an #auspol election in the next few days.

He'll want to make sure it's the first thing the country thinks about going into a cost of living election.

The Duttons’ empty trust fund could have cut their tax bill. Here’s how it worked
Opposition leader Peter Dutton has revealed his family’s trust holds no assets after being used for years in property transactions.

Following on from my other post, Dutton received a lovely tax discount on his investment properties. The CGT discount needs to go. Even if it's just a Diet CGT that only applies to the first 2 or 3 properties, that will greatly increase tax revenue. But we know the LNP will never do that.

#auspol
Dutton's property investments... A reminder, on this property he made $3,675,000. But because you get a 50% discount on capital gains, he only had to pay tax on $1,837,500.

That tax discount each year costs around $22bn - of which $18bn goes to the richest 10%

Oh look, Peter Dutton has a fuckload of investment properties that have made him millions, "that he has frequently declared to parliament late, partially, or not at all"

I'm sure we can trust him to fix the housing crisis we have in this country.

Woodside’s North West Shelf gas export project is a disaster on five fronts:

🔴 Plummeting royalties
🔴 Threat to WA domestic gas reserves
🔴 Tripled WA’s wholesale gas + electricity prices
🔴 4.3 billion tonnes of emissions
🔴 Corroding ancient rock art

"Starve the beast" is the strategy of conservative governments everywhere to ruin the services the public expects from the government and to justify the sale of vital public systems to private enterprise. The Tories do it in the UK, the LNP do it in Australia, the US has been doing it for years.
The GOP's strategy:

1) Cut taxes for the wealthy & corporations by claiming they'll pay for themselves.

2) Explode the deficit.

3) Demand cuts to programs that millions of people rely on.

4) Repeat.

They're trying it again this week. Don't let them get away with it.

That sound you here is the other shoe dropping, Labor will fund Medicare, but the LNP will only match it after they cut thousands of public service jobs. Peter Dutton, always looking to lower the bar. Don't let the LNP win at the next election. They cannot be trusted with government.

Labor making more announcements that actually do something. I'd be stoked if this was the election that Labor stopped playing small target politics and actually swung for the fences. This will help deliver jobs and renewables.

I criticise the ALP for not doing enough on the environment or trying to maintain a two party system, etc. but every now and again they announce ambitious policy that helps people, and deserve credit. This is one of those times.

ALP deserve credit for this.
