Agreed. It allows you decorate a flat elegantly when you're not well off. And even when you're better off, you can save money by buying one expensive centrepiece item - the basin, the bath, whatever - then getting everything else from IKEA. People will presume they're more expensive than they are.
I love IKEA. I wouldn't have been able to afford to furnish my first home without it. I still use the splatter screen I bought for £2.50 in 2001 whenever I cook a big batch of bolognese sauce. It's better to buy local and second hand where available, but if it's not, then IKEA is a good option.

‘What’s going on?’ asks Laura Kuenssberg - suddenly fired up with Labour.
Funny how that energy was missing during 14 years of Tory rule.

So the real question:
Where were you then, Laura?
Your scrutiny felt absent, and Boris Johnson, whom you once called ‘gifted politician’, never got this heat.

The calls from America this weekend to "abolish the EU" are for one simple reason: the EU is the only thing that can keep European nation-states from becoming Russian or American vassals.
The US has declared rhetorical war on the EU
The calls from America this weekend to destroy the EU are revealing. They hate the union because it's the only thing that can keep European countries from being Russian or American vassals.

Fair play, to the boy @peterjukes.bsky.social & the crew @BylineTimes.bsky.social.
Not sure you’d see a deep dark dive into imagery/peer pressure/apocalyptic violence like this anywhere else!

Refreshingly brain-curdling. Or something. But chapeau…
