Sad to hear of the death of Kenny Morris, drummer on Siouxsie And The Banshees' first two albums. His style, mostly toms with minimal cymbal or snare, was hugely influential in the post-punk era. It's showcased vividly on this German TV performance of Mittageisen. RIP www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNnY...

Letter from Charles Schulz to a fan. 1970. Much missed, unlike Scott Adams.

This could be the biggest statement worldwide to date. if there were empty stadiums nationwide in America because Trump is the Antichrist & everyone believes it. Would he discount tickets with a going out of business "blowout" sale.

A Black man was killed by ICE (off duty) in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve. And like Renée Good, he was an American citizen. But most people have not heard about Keith Porter.

I need y’all to realize this. Black people experience this lack of visibility all the time when it comes to being victims.

It's so pass-agg isn't it? Well, I worked for The Guardian on various things for about 20 years, including a weekly stint doing TV reviews, rates never going up year by year, a gig from which, like a few others, I was dumped with a week's notice. I'll read you for free.

Yes - I think ITV was considered to be for the working classes, the BBC for the lower middle classes and “upward”. Definitely a thing in our household.

there are *so many* big number accounts on twitter saying "we can't leave, we built a community here and-" sorry pal, you're anchoring smaller accounts to a site which could deposit illegal imagery directly into their timeline. the only sensible move is to tell them to leave, and you with it

I get this! I sometimes feel the ideal thing would be for people to buy my books but not to read them. (Which I am sure happens frequently)

England has its best chance of winning the World Cup since 1970 but I hope it is boycotted by every nation with cojones - Brazil, Spain, Italy, France. Don't expect England to boycott it because our PM's a pathetic lickspittle but I hope at least it's rendered devoid of meaning as a tournament.

I was such a Sunderland fan this evening for obvious reasons but loved the relentlessly encouraging roar of the fans, how that galvanised the team in every way - solidity, forays upfield, defensive blocking. City might have scored but so might have Sunderland. And great to see Xhaka so pivotal.

Sickening crash of skull on post office floor as I faint on being told the price of stamps these days. £7.98 for four first class stamps!? I had two quid ready expecting change. £7.98! The least you’d expect at that price is a complimentary glass of wine but the geezer just shook his head. £7.98!

Ronnie Biggs died 12 years ago today. Bless him. He was the people's train robber, the driver cosher of our hearts. He was the true spirit of punk. God knows what he'd make of music today. Ambient, emo, rap. Is that what him and Sid died for? He'd probably fuck off back to Brazil in despair.
