Only “half”? Surely people see the similarities between PP & south of the border
I’m torn by talk of Poilievre’s leadership being in trouble.

While he’s their leader the Cons can’t win, so I sort of hope he stays.

Nations rarely have the good fortune to have someone the calibre of Mark Carney willing to put up with politics to lead, I don’t want to waste that opportunity.
Half of Canadians would be ‘ashamed’ to call Pierre Poilievre PM: Angus Reid
Despite a decisive byelection victory on Monday, winning him back a seat in the House of Commons, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is coming up short in winning Canadians overall.

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

For 9 in 10 days so far this year, we were 100% powered for some part of the day by clean energy.

In a functional party system, this kind of capitulation in the face of authoritarianism could mean the end of the Democratic Party.

In our system, it could mean the end of the two party system. Neither party can represent the pro-democracy majority. It's time for something new.
