Saturday hot take: Equinor secured financing to move ahead with Empire Wind 1 in NY, expected online by 2027. But at $5b for 810 MW at Empire Wind 1 = north of $6000/kW. That's so expensive. Shouldn't we just be building new nuclear reactors in NY and NJ at this rate? 🔌💡

key point. nuclear waste is a problem, but it is not even in the same ball park as fossil fuel pollution. a rounding error by comparison bsky.app/profile/jess...
The entire history of US civilian nuclear power, which has produced 1/5th of our electricity for decades with no CO2 or air pollution, has produced less than 100,000 tons of high level waste. We burn billions of tons of fossil fuels EVERY YEAR.

I don’t really get postal politics … it’s a cross-subsidy to rural package recipients and republicans hate it?
New: Trump is talking behind closed doors at Mar-a-Lago about privatizing the Postal Service, sources say, citing financial losses

Could remake one of the oldest institutions in all of American government

This place is too cozy, so let me be a little provocative:

In the last 5 years or so, the climate movement had the opportunity to pivot away from No No No (fighting/blocking things) to Yes Yes Yes (supporting abundance, more RE, more housing, more building).

But ...

Thank you, John! Tireless efforts by many. OMB and USDS deserve huge props. What a win to rack up at this moment.
Paperwork Reduction Act is prime example how govt process could turn well-intentioned legislation into a net negative & became a test case to see whether reform in DC was possible at all. Great to see, after tireless effort by @pahlkadot.bsky.social, OMB came out with fixes this week. There is hope.

Yes, this.
I'm taking sides in a spat between Congresswoman MGP and those defending the defensiveness of the left. Exactly what the regs say is not the point. The point is the impact they have. www.eatingpolicy.com/p/stop-telli...
