New year, new members of the fam. I’d introduce you, but we’re waiting to get to know them before naming.

Have a safe NYE, and a happy New Year, all.

Fun holiday season fact:

If every church in the US committed to finding a home for just *two* homeless people, we’d run out of unhoused people long before we ran out of churches.

Fascism is having to watch a bootleg version of a news program produced in your own country.

Sending Christopher Anderson as the photographer was definitely not a random choice. Sitting in front of Christopher Anderson not knowing what was going to happen was probably less informed of a choice

One day, not too long from now, I’m going to walk into Lidl and buy milk. And that half-gallon of milk is going to be around for longer than Trump. ⌛️

For anyone holiday shopping for someone who is (or is becoming) interested in cooking: If they don’t yet have a food scale, this is a no-brainer. Broadly useful (far beyond cooking) and stupid cheap.

First Chipotle I’ve ever been to that is not sporting classic Klipsch Heresy horn-loaded speakers. This is the sonic equivalent of Coke swapping out cane sugar for high-fructose corn syrup. Booooo.

Anosognosia

A neurological condition in which a person is unaware of their own illness, deficits, or impairments, even when these are obvious to others.

Often seen in Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. This unawareness is often confused w/denial and poses unique challenges for care.
Every part of this is bonkers. The intro is bonkers. The transition to his health is bonkers. The mention that other presidents didn't need cognitive exams is bonkers. The claim that this screening test is somehow hard is bonkers. The idea that criticism of him is treason is bonkers. All of it.

I'm not sure it's in the self interest of America's tech bro billionaires to suggest that we bring back public executions to punish the most destructive people in our society.
A Palantir billionaire just called for public hangings.

“It's time to bring back masculine leadership to protect our most vulnerable,” writes Joe Lonsdale.

This is where Silicon Valley authoritarianism is heading:

Music discovery engines, as opposed to most algorithms, are an example for which I will happily submit. This year has been a serendipitous journey, leading to many surprising places. (Via Spotify Wrapped, 2025)

Not sure what to think of these vintage camera lamps. (But I am pretty sure this is probably the best possible use of one of those dreadful Nikkor 43-86mm f/3.5 zooms.)

The Mall in Columbia — the only indoor shopping mall in Howard County, MD, pop. 350,000 — can’t even fill the lower lot in the parking garage on a *rainy* Sunday after Thanksgiving.

This does not bode well for Q4 2025 numbers.
