The proposed Return Regulation doubles down on the current Directive's (and its long-stalled recast's) coercive and punitive approach, while watering down protective measures and human rights safeguards that were already scarce.

This is why Impact Assessments are crucial.
This coercive and punitive approach is not based on evidence.

@ceps.eu's DEI committee is organising its first ever session at #CEPSlab2025! In 2019, a 'Union of Equality' was listed as a top priority by the @ec.europa.eu. Yet the new EC doesn't have a Commissioner exclusively responsible for equality anymore... So, what's up with the EU's equality framework?
