Kindness is as critically underrated as it is monumentally important.
The study found Kentucky could save $2.6 billion for ratepayers through 2050 by replacing coal-fired power with clean energy resources, primarily solar power paired with batteries to store the power.

About 4.6 million people in KY, so that's more than $500 each.

Relatedly, we obtained an unpublished history of Stephen Miller's ancestors' immigration to the US, written by his grandmother. People like them were attacked in terms very similar to the ones Miller and MAGA use about today's immigrants:

US coal generation has collapsed from about 50% of electricity in 2005 to just 14% today. It’s one of the fastest energy transitions in modern history. Operating a coal plant now costs more than building new wind and solar in every state. buff.ly/lhSKS7D

Can the war on coal still be won?
Ten years ago, the U.S. was on track to phase out coal by 2030, thanks to the Sierra Club. Now Trump and AI are delaying the fuel’s decline.

Despite finding myself in more malls, restaurants and airports than usual this holiday season, I somehow avoided The Boy, once again winning @littledrummerboychallenge.com... and once again, it was for Fawn, a friend gone far too soon.

Listening (after Bing & Bowie) to a mix Fawn made me. Miss her.

This is just beautiful. Sincere but understated. You can feel the ache of loss. Scorsese is as good a writer as he is a director and actor. My house is full of books that he contributed essays, forewords, and introductions to, and every one is a gem.
I've seen this going around today and it's beautiful, so here's a gift link.

"Can I just get the wife's number to call and let her know?" woman asks.

"No, guess he should've complied," agent says.

Merry Christmas to everyone spending today alone.

Who’s sick in bed and unable to participate in festivities.

Who’s in the hospital wishing they could be at home.

Who’s caring for someone who’s sick and having a difficult time.

The holidays hit different for us and that’s ok.

Our Christmas Eve viewing is done: "Miracle on 34th Street" (1947) and "A Charlie Brown Christmas," plus John Williams conducting the Boston Pops on "Sleigh Ride" via YouTube.

The rain has stopped, at least for now, and I successfully avoided The Boy for another year. Wishing everyone a calm night.

Yule like this trivia from @npr.org!

"Before crooners sang about carols being sung by a fire, Yule meant something different: a pagan mid-winter festival around the solstice, dating back to pre-Christian Germanic people... Drinking copious amounts of ale was not only encouraged but required."
