Burhan and I don’t agree on everything, but I respect his willingness to listen and make space for a range of good faith perspectives as policy is made. I haven’t decided who I’m supporting in this race yet, but it’s exciting to see him throw his hat in the ring.
I want to believe (and want you to believe) a better Massachusetts is possible so we're running for State Senate!

Join us next Wednesday February 25th 6pm at the Armory as we kick this election off!

I recently spoke in support of housing and dignity for the residents of 240 Albany as their shelter is renovated:

“Low-threshold beds are often the only way that many people can get off the street, especially those who are using drugs. The emergency beds [at 240 Albany] are a particular lifeline.”

I’m proud to stand with my colleagues as we form our union with #UFCW. Ownership has chosen not to voluntarily recognize us, so we’re heading to an election.

Comm Ave now has a bike lane again thanks to the effort of this volunteer crew!

This is just one street, and we don't have the plows that the city has. Let's get this done city-wide!

I’m proud to have helped draft the zoning that will allow a hundred more low income households to live in Porter Square. “Get used to” taller buildings on Mount Vernon street!

Councilor Toner wondered rhetorically whether “we” would be submitting such an order every time someone is laid off.

My response: “you certainly won’t be”

It also makes me wonder if he knows that more layoffs are coming.

I was honored to speak with the Globe about our campaign. Together, we made history on Tuesday night, not just here but across the country. And we’re just getting started.
Ayah Al-Zubi made history as the youngest person ever elected to the Cambridge City Council, at a time when young leaders on the political left are asserting themselves in positions of power.

We ran on making Cambridge an affordable and dignified city to live in, and making sure the most vulnerable people are heard. Everyday issues for working people were the driving force behind our campaign, and we will carry their voices into City Hall.

Climate change is happening NOW, which means more flash floods. Cambridge needs to get more proactive in addressing our sewer overflows, which expose residents to dangerous untreated wastewater. I support better infrastructure in Alewife Brook + other climate solutions to address this. #mapoli

Social housing just makes sense. It creates truly mixed-income communities. It's self sustaining. And it can add hundreds of new homes across the city, including many that are deeply affordable. Projects that are publicly owned & democratically controlled.

Affordability goes to the heart of our values. What kind of Sanctuary City are we, if we force our most vulnerable out? Standing up to Trump is one part of the fight. Keeping our community inclusive, affordable, and dignified is the other.

Make no mistake, these issues are interconnected.
