Man, Du Bois had some bangers, but for me, it doesn't get much better than his scathing indictment of the "Christianity" of the United States.

Certainly this was all true of the nation in his lifetime. But in my lifetime, his criticisms have never felt so true of the nation right now.

Tonight at family dinner my 3-year-old asked, “Dad how can we help judges in the penumbra? What can we do to get courts to incorporate morality but still respect the sources thesis? We need to protect America against inclusive legal positivism.”

I’m almost embarrassed to admit how hyped up I am for this. Someone with humane moral sensibilities, crisp sports insight… and baking skills (aspirations)!
For anyone wondering why I spent so much time baking last summer....here's why!

Philly showing up today, even in the rain.
Eli and I are proud to stand with millions around the country as we say “ABOLISH ICE.”

Once again, Philadelphia — “the City of Love” — makes it clear. Immigrants are welcome here. ICE is NOT.

Play-doh and Iceland both need to be worried about the ignorance and incompetence of this regime.

Nerve struck!
Twitter accounts are based in Russia. BlueSky accounts are based in homes with, frankly, too many books, plants, obsolete cables, and pieces of rustic pottery, that could do with a bit of a tidying up, to be honest.

Robin is the best!! A beloved colleague— and a philosophical force-of-nature in her own right.
If you are interested in #Yinyang philosophy or new to Chinese thought overall, definitely check out this episode of HoPWaG featuring Robin R. Wang! Meeting her in Beijing in 2015 had a great impact on how I understand Yinyang and the five phases today.
On today's new #HoPWaG episode we are joined by Robin Wang, who discusses yin-yang theory: she argues it is not so much a piece of doctrine as a whole pattern of thought.

“[i]t is indeed difficult to interpret as hope the idolatry which immense, fascinated masses show for leaders who have previously, by ceaseless propaganda, succeeded in paralyzing not only any critical spirit in their minions, but all true sense of values.”

How are the philosophers thinking about this? Are we boycotting JPhil, et al?

I wonder if the Columbia leadership realizes (or cares) how much blowback there might be from *within* the academy.

This post, from a Cornell Law professor, is worth reading:

Brandolini's law (aka the bullshit asymmetry principle):
The amount of energy needed to refute bullshit is an order of magnitude bigger than that needed to produce it.
